Waluigi is being recognized as a Wario character this time around.

That's strange; Waluigi NEVER appeared in a Wario game

^This is the answer, it really isn't something to look too deeply into.

Also, Skull Kid is lame. He just flips the screen. It was in the direct.
 
I really want to comment on them all, including returning Assist Trophies that weren't seen before, but instead, I'll just comment on the new ones seen in the SSB Direct. ...Wait, did Sakurai say something about "All-Star Mode"? ...So, "All-Star Mode" confirmed to return? Also, how will they factor into All-Star Mode? Either way, he says he wants to put in as many as possible, which is awesome! ...Even though the Assist Trophy item itself looks creepy now... Actually, I want to note that in the previous game, Waluigi was classified as a Mario character, now he's classified as a Wario character. Interesting, in that Waluigi has only been featured in Mario spin-offs, and only is associated with Wario by being paired with him in those games.

The Skull Kid doesn't use the Moon, but then again, wouldn't that just destroy EVERYTHING if he did do that? Midna looks pretty cool, it's awesome to see her (even if she's not playable). Dark Samus, I have to admit, I haven't played much of the Prime games, so I don't think that of her, but seeing her here... Yeah, she's pretty awesome. Kind of makes me reconsider seeing her playable... in the next Smash Bros. HOLY CRAP, CHAIN CHOMP, another obvious and brilliant idea! Elec Man, sweet, I wonder if we'll see any other Robot Masters... WHOA, Color TV Game 15... talk about old-school!
 
Been wondering about something. He Direct shows that Dr. Wright is coming back but he has the Smash Bros symbol. Isn't he a Sim City character?

He is, but there's no SimCity logo. A lot of characters no associated with a pre-existing universe symbol have that, like Saki from Sin & Punishment, and I THINK the Color TV 15 Game.
 
He could've been a great fighter, though.
 
He would be a Sonic clone. Sonic rolls and Dillon rolls so they would be way too similar. There can only be one.

I believe Tingle and Shadow are returning, and according to Chugga Magnus is a new one.
