My stance on the New Super Mario Bros. games

I still think the timer is stupid

Lives are dumb and outdated. I'm still waiting for Nintendo to do away with them.

I think it's something from the arcade days? Because Kirby still uses them, however the punishment isn't as severe.

Yes, it is a relic of the arcade days. Kirby should also do away with them; Mass Attack didn't have it.

You should really play Pikmin. It does away with all those cliches. No lives, and 2 and 3 let you take as much time as you need, however in 3 you need to keep your juice levels up- that's not hard though.

Sure... when I have some monehz.

or you guys could just switch genres

i mean seriously if you're fed up with lives, one of the staples of this genre, then you should probably just go play a good FPS or something

Lives aren't a staple. They're an outdated relic from the arcade age that serves no purpose other than additional time to program and that jazz. There are many platformers that don't use lives, and they're pretty well off.

Like Rayman?

i mean they can't just do away with the 1-up mushroom entirely!

Easy: find a more useful purpose for coins and have 1-up Mushrooms equate to checkpoints or more coins.

Yep. Except for the 1st Rayman.

Why do you hate lives if you aren't terrible they literally don't affect you.

Maybe coins could be used in a store to buy power-ups you can't get anywhere else?

I said that they're a waste of programming and money.

You know that old saying, "Cut anything that doesn't serve a purpose"? Well, you can cut lives.

No. To be honest I don't really care whether a game has lifes and timers or not. I've played games with and without them so I really don't care.

i'd like to see you design a game then

be prepared for people to complain that it seems too "minimalistic"

that wouldn't happen because designing a mario game with a good engine is too much for anybody here.

Easy games do get boring after a while. Challenge is actually quite fun.

I disagree

An easy or challenging game can be fun, it depends on the persons preference. If all games were challenging, that would be terrible because it can drive a particular group of gamers away. The same thing can happen the other way around.

Oh, and Merry Christmas if you celebrate that holiday.

well that depends on how the challenge is presented, really.

Kirby's Epic Yarn is panned for being too easy yet I still love it to death.

Kirby games are easy in the right way. As in, they're easy if you're going just for completing the main story, but they're quite challenging if you're going for 100%.

Besides, I like easier games than harder ones. I dunno why

Because they're less frustrating?
