The Situation in Venezuela

I couldn't give less than two flipping cacti if that happened.

The former Miss Venezuela and her husband were shot and killed by a gang of thugs last month.

I wouldn't like U.S. intervention though. As I stated, anti-U.S. sentiment and oil ties, plus, U.S. wouldn't repeat their action as they did with the Middle-East. Despite this, I think they helped Egypt and other protestors at Saudi-Arabia? I think?

i don't really keep up with news at all, but afaik there hasn't been much protesting going on in saudi arabia. around the times when the protesting was getting at it's worst in other nearby countries, the king started giving people money and doing good things or something like that to try and stop people from protesting. i think it must have worked pretty ok since i only remember like one or two times where there was actually mentions of people protesting (i can't remember what the details are anymore since this was like two years ago or something, so some of this might be a bit off the mark)

Is Anser alive?

Um, he posted literally minutes ago

I didn't know this thread existed! If I had known, I would have stopped posting in the other thread a long time ago. Things are getting worse every day. Cuba has sent some of their military to infiltrate with ours to kill us (remember Maduro basically wants to give them our country). They ordered a curfew in some cities of the country and we can't go out if we don't want to be killed.

I'll keep you guys updated. I want to thank all of you for being interested and supporting my country. I don't know how many times I've said this, but you really have no idea of how much it means to me. Imagining that some of you even lost some sleep thinking of us is just unbelievable. God bless you all, and again, THANKS!

That rat Raul Castro! Stay safe. I hope you are posting behind a proxy or two or ten you don't want your government to find you. They are probably monitoring everything. You have a right to protest for your human rights, though. I don't know why America can't help you guys out under the Monroe Doctrine.

A) it only applies to European colonies, and Venezuela is independent.
B) it's only counts as a warning; nothing binds the US to help out anywhere if it doesn't want to.

Apparently one of the student protesters was raped by one of the colectives with a rifle.

also anser hasn't been online for a while he worries me.

Thanks for worrying, guys. I'm fine!

The method of protesting now is to close ALL the streets, so the whole country collapses. That way, everyone will feel the pressure and the unhappiness across the country. It's safe until the police come and take all the obstacles that close the streets out, but we run from them when they come, unless most times we fight back. I feel we're making a progress, so hopefully this war should be over in the following weeks/months.

I'm shocked to say the least. I had no idea this was happening. We haven't heard a single thing about this on the news. Not a single thing. What you're describing sounds terrible... Sounds like that Nicolás Maduro is making life a living nightmare for the people there. Best luck to you, Anser.

*Edit: Accidentally wrote Raul Castro instead of Nicolás Maduro

Ugh, I feel kind of silly right now. I meant to write Nicolás Maduro, but accidentally wrote Raul Castro instead...

Don't worry; they're basically the same piece of sh!t. I'm glad to know that I helped spreading the word and now one more person knows our situation. Thanks for your support!

Sorry for double posting, but apparently the government has ordered to free Iván Simonovis, who was put in jail by Chávez unfairly. This is a huge shock for the country because he's been in jail for years and was one of Chávez's biggest enemies.

The... The dictatorship may be starting to crack because of the international pressure... :| God, please let this be true!!

Nah this is a classic dictator strategy they release certain political prisoners as a way to appease protesters and to make it look to the outside world that they are doing something for the people and easing restrictions

He was NOT elected democratically. He stole the elections and there is proof of it. He actually has let it slip a couple times, but no one does anything. The CNE (National Electoral Center) is part of the PSUV (the political party founded by Chávez) so they always rig the elections. There is footage of boxes containing hundreds of votes being burned and destroyed and everything.

It was a joke I know he wasn't elected fairly

So, Jared Leto (vocalist of 30 Seconds To Mars and Best Supporting Actor winner) talked about the situation in Ukraine and Venezuela tonight at the Oscars, and we're very grateful. He helped raise awareness and now many more people know what's going on.

The protests have kept going on, and they're as strong as always. Many people have died in the last days, though. The known amount of dead people so far is 18, but many people have died without their deaths being published and several bodies have gone missing.

Today, millions of people walked together in different cities. Maduro insists that only the rich walk because they have money, but it turns out that the poor people have also joined the protests because they're affected the most when they can't find any food. He thinks that only a few people are against him when the truth is that more than half of the country wants him out. Does it make any sense to you guys that the president of a nation insults more than half of it every-single-time he talks? He takes over national TV at least twice a day, interrupting its programs (not that they're good anyway) to say stupid things and insult the opposition. He always calls us fascists, traitors to the homeland, spoiled brats and whatnot, just because we want a better life. He always tells us that we're sons of Obama (because they call themselves sons of Chávez) because reportedly we want the US to take over the country. Hell, THEY let Cuba take over our country, and then he comes to call us traitors to the homeland? That son of a bitch. I hate him so freaking much.

They did? I would've bothered to watch the Oscars for that.

If this doesn't scream dictator, I don't know what does. I just hope you, FireEevee, and the rest of the citizens of Venezuela stay strong.

Only Jared Leto, because he was the nominee. He didn't delve too much into it; he just said that Ukraine and Venezuela are in his thoughts and that we should follow our dreams of being free, but that's really cool from him. We're very grateful.

Sorry for double posting, but I wanted to update.

Today (Wednesday, March 12th) it's been one month since the protests began. In commemoration of the fallen students on February 12th (Bassil Da Costa and Robert Redman), we're taking the streets, again, with Venezuelan flags dyed with black and grey. In Caracas (the capital), the protest is going to take place at the Palace of Justice to demand the renounce of the Minister of Defence, who, in a press conference given three days ago, had the nerve to justify the tortures that have occurred in the country. She said that tortures are tools that can be used in order to get needed information. Let's remember that tortures are banned by international communities, as they are a violation to human rights. The amount of dead people can't really be counted anymore; there are so many now, and even more have died "in secret" and their deaths haven't been acknowledged by the media.

We're still fighting here. Panama and Switzerland are apparently closing the ministers' bank accounts because they have their fortunes in those countries. I've been told that apparently the United States are revoking their visas too. The world is beginning to recognize that we're on a dictatorship and many countries have demanded that international communities intervene here. Hopefully this nightmare will end soon.

Thanks once more for your support, guys! Please keep helping us spread the word! God bless you all!
