The Situation in Venezuela

Well I'm glad to see some passive intervention from other communities

It sounds like we're now involved in this. How long until these protests, plus what's happening right now in Crimea, combine into World War III?

No, it is just war in the countries, not across multiply countries

I'm shocked to say the least. I had no idea this was happening. We haven't heard a single thing about this on the news. Not a single thing. What you're describing sounds terrible... Sounds like that Raul Castro is making life a living nightmare for the people there. Best luck to you, Anser.
wrong country

raul castro is the dictator of cuba, maduro is the ruler of venezuela
Um I believe you mean democratically elected leader of Venezula :P

Even if he was, which I doubt because of Anser's primary references, doesn't Venezuela have he right to change it's mind?

Still a joke

this is really quite minuscule, and I doubt we'd see WWIII in our time.

yeah seriously. if crimea wants to join russia, then they will. ukraine might complain about it but i really don't see any reason why the UN or anyone else would step into that. otherwise, russia will probably pull back. if they keep occupying crimea they'll just lose all of the world's favor, which usually shows itself via punishing trade sanctions which will shut their economy down.

WWIII? really? this is nothing close to WWIII. i can't even really think of a scenario where WWIII would happen, unless suddenly all the muslim nations fell to radicalism, merged into one state, and acquired nuclear weapons.

that would be pretty terrible, but it's incredibly unlikely and i highly doubt that will happen.

God f*cking dammit!!!! My cousin was put in jail by the police, who are supporting the shooters hired by the government!! My cousin is in danger :'( I'm about to go with my dad and my uncle to try and save him...

So many people have died today. I can hear people screaming and running, detonations and ambulances and all. God, please help my poor country :'(

Sounds like living hell

I have no idea how good I am living right now :'(

I recently made an acquaintance who's in Venezuela, he too is participating in the protests. He keeps a Twitter account and retweets images from other people, retweets messages from other people, and tweets pictures he's taken of the protests.

Today at his university, there was going to be an organized march to one of the city squares. His university is autonomous; meaning it has its own jurisdiction; there are laws the prohibit the national guard from going in. So once they started to march, hundreds of national guard enforcers made a line to stop them from marching; as I heard it from him, the march was mostly unsuccesfull. He wore a snorkel mask to the protest, which ended up keeping him safe from the tear gas.

Well, my cousin was freed last night. The police men had put him in jail because he was helping a girl that was hurt. Then, they punched him and made him get on his knees and his hands on his head during more than three hours. He's home now, but he was hurt last night. Another girl, though, had her hair cut by the police and was severely hurt. Those assholes are supposed to PROTECT us, yet they're working with the assassins hired by the government to kill us and repress us.

I do not even know how to respond to this. I am glad that your family is alive. I hope that everybody in the country will be OK.

no, what's terrible is his complete insensitivity which can only stem from one of two sources: complete naïvite, or deliberate trolling

The president and many of the ministers are blaming the usa to try to use it as a scapegoat.

also alba and oea don't want anyone to intervene and help us out so yah.

still pisses me off that those shitheads will probs get away with it in due time

They won't say anything because their mouths are full of our oil -__- That's the only thing they care about. The don't give a flipping f*ck about how many die here daily as long as they have their oil each month.

Except when we decide to "protect our interests."

well, yeah

tbh i'm not really in favor of us intervention in much, unless there's actually a threat to the us. like, assassinating bin laden. that would be an acceptable intervention to me.

What about passive intervention?

also because it's not america's job to step in and help every protest movement in the world
In an ideal world, we're supposed to be help people from their oppressed environments. In fact, if it weren't for Americans intervening in France during World War II, I may not even be here today. After all, my grandmother lived during World War II, right in the Lorraine area of France, which is next to... Germany. But, this kind of stuff drains resources, including human life, and if the conflict turns out badly, Americans end up retreating and the country that needs us suffers.

We should only intervene only when it's absolutely necessary; we already have enough problems at home
