Splatoon

Ok, I can safely say I am shit with the Charger. My favorite is the Roller. I got 12 kills vs 2 deaths in one game with it.
You and I both!

It's too bad I wasn't able to play the demo beyond the first one, since I have to go out or they are too early. On the other hand, I am glad I slept through the final one (which was at 6am here) since I heard there were some technical difficulties.

Still got this game preordered since I found it fun from the first time I played it.

Thanks for reading.

Just bought it recently.

Impressions
-Leveling up was kinda difficult. It depends on how much paint you covered in a match.
-Single Player is pretty easy. The levels where you dodge Inkstrikes are difficult.
-Battle Dojo was boring. Unless it features Turf War in local multiplayer in the future.

so uh im gonna dash out and get this later today hopefully

anything i should know?

The Inklings, Smashified.

if i hadn't already seen the vid, you could've told me this was official splatoon art and i would've believed you

okay so i got it and it's fun but the game has serious balancing issues when it comes to matchmaking

also i'm pretty disgusted that there's a decent amount of the game that you can only get by paying another $36 for impossible-to-find amiibo

Agreed.

The two kid amiibo don't seem too hard to find, but I do think that the amiibo are very pricey if you only want their functionality in the game (I love their designs, so I'm not too mad).

I think the content, even without the Amiibo, is still more than worth while and the fact that there is an Amiibo part isn't really that bad. And they don't seem that hard to get, since I've seen lots of them in the stores since it came out (at least in my area).

I really enjoy this game. It's still tons of fun even though I've played like 40 matches. I think the cycling of stages is a great thing to have so that things don't get stale, and keeps you wanting to play every day. I'm awaiting for some modes to open up like the "Reach Lv. 10" online mode thingy and the Two pop-star squid poll thingy (you can tell how great I am at remembering names), and then it'll be even more fun stuff to do!

I've also gotten about halfway through the solo mode. It's really cool and I'm really enjoying it. It's not that bad, it's not super hard but it keeps you on your toes here and there, especially when dealing with those octo humans. I also really like the backstory I've gotten about the world of Splatoon from the special pages. I'm not going to spoil anything, but it does make one wonder...

Also, SO MANY SPONGEBOB miiverse posts are just floating around whenever I go on, usually involving Squidward. I get the whole nautical thing, but man, I did not expect that to be the most notable thing with the miiverse board for the game. I love it though; it's like my music building at college. I don't think a day goes by in that place without some spongebob joke thrown in the air.

The amiibo content is just rehashed levels of the single player except you use different weapons. Girl uses Charger, Boy has Roller, and Squid has the Kraken ability. The gear you get, while being very good, is certainly not the best you can obtain.

With that said, I'm going to borrow my friends' Splatoon amiibo since he bought them, so I lucked out there.

Enjoy the easier levels while they last...

I highly suggest to not bother updating the bombs and to focus upgrades on the rapid-fire and ink tank. Trust me, you will regret not doing that when you get to the later missions and especially the final boss.

Also, on another note, I wish I could pick the music that plays during the online fights. I don't really like the online vs. music, but I really like a lot of the single player music.

i understand why nintendo had to do the amiibo thing from a business standpoint but it's still pretty terrible. i should not have to pay a hundred dollars for the full game

anyway i personally like the music. it's not the catchiest thing ever, but it's quirky and original and i like it

also i once saw a billboard with squidward screaming "ARE YOU FINISHED WITH THOSE ERRANDS" so that was nice

this thread has yet to ask the burning question

are YOU A KID OR A SQUID OR A KID OR A SQUID OR A KID OR A SQUID

also sheesh don't get me wrong i enjoy the game but that doesn't mean i'm not going to ignore its flaws

it's a good game, but it's pretty lacking in modes and stages which leaves it feeling more like a prototype than a full $60 game

I was just toying with you with that comment.

But I will disagree heavily with you about it feeling like a prototype. Maybe it's because not all the modes are open that it feels like that, but right now it definitely feels like a full game, even without the Amiibo content. Not to mention that we don't even know how many stages they have right now, but we've seen like 5 different ones so far this weekend, so it's not like there isn't much variety.

Also, I'm about 80% of the way through the story mode (in the final area). I haven't had to restart a level at all, and at most I only splat like once or twice a level. Usually when I'm not careful enough. I definitely hate the levels where you have to constantly be hidden or else that creature on the UFO just bombs you with that whole inkplosion thingy.

Isn't Nintendo gonna update this game with a bunch of free shit?

Just in time. There's going to be an update later at 7pm PT/ 10pm ET. Ranked Battles (Splat Zones, Tower Control), NES Zapper and another map (Port Mackerel).

I'm still waiting for the rest (Kelp Dome, Camp Triggerfish and Bluefin Depot).

I agree with Nabber that the game kinda lacks modes for local options. For starters, you can't use any of the other weapons (Charger and Roller) if you don't have amiibo in offline single player. That's a major drawback the game has. Weapons are a pretty pivotal thing to have in any shooter ever, different weapons offer different strategies and different ways to play, they are as varied as different fighters.

Also, I've heard that the max number of maps is five. Yeah, five maps.

There's also a lack of a single player mode against 4 Octoling bots, in which you can practice against before you take on against real people or if you prefer things that way. Most shooters offer single player play against bots, this one doesn't.

The local multiplayer is also extremely limited but I'm not sure if it's the fault of the developers not adding it in or that it is currently impossible to add more players. But for starter, I'd like 2 player co-op against a team of bots if anyone doesn't mind.

Yes, more modes are coming, for free nonetheless, but for now, I'll critique the game as it currently is. If the new patches fix everything, I'll redact my critiques of the game.

just beat story mode
i can safely say that the final boss is my favorite boss battle of all time
