Should Sakurai still be involved or retire for future Smash sequels?

He should definitely still be involved. It always seems to me there's this small portion of the Smash Bros. community who always get upset whenever the smallest thing in the game isn't how they want it to be, and yell at Sakurai for it. I think he's done a great job with the series.

a faster paced game more suitable for tournament play

What about those who don't want to play in tournaments?
Melee-esque gameplay will in no way effect people who play casually.

Then just play Melee. Each game is meant to have a different feel to it.

Then don't play smash 4 because it's incredibly similar to Brawl. Believe or not some people want Melee gameplay with an expanded roster.

I don't want Melee gameplay but I do want some Melee mechanics. Like how about no air-dodging when you're tumbling, I freaking hate air-dodge spam so I can't follow up attacks with aerials.

If God meant for us to play Smash competitively, he would have given us gamecube controllers instead of hands.

that means god doesn't exist

Maybe learn how to accept the fact that you're probably not going to get Melee with an expanded Roster because they feel that it is better to make the game meant to be played by everyone, not just the competitive people.

And Melee is hard for everyone to play... how?

Noncompetitive players have never complained about Melee and they shan't complain just as long as there is an expanded roster, more stages, more trophies, not-cheap items, and no tripping.

Hey, I'm just saying what Sakurai is basically saying about the gameplay. Obviously he wouldn't have changed the gameplay from Melee to Brawl unless he felt there was reason to believe that the gameplay was faulty in Melee (plus that interview).

And how does that provide a satisfying answer to the thesis that Samurai's reasoning is flawed

I know, but the gameplay itself isn't exactly hard to get into. I've enjoyed Meele since I was 10, and I know how to play the game. All competitive games have their intricate mechanics that children probably can't grasp, but does that mean all competitively-viable games alienate the crowd, thus making them unplayable for everyone? No, but I'm afraid that's what Sakurai's seeing Meele.

His intention to change into Barlw's gameplay is well-intentioned, but I think it's horribly misguided. Adding random tripping, seriously? That was supposed to be a fix from faulty gameplay? What exactly are Sakurai's fixes, and how do they improve the gameplay? For example, I don't think air-dodging in Barlw is necessarily a good thing.

Shit, I'm a casual playing talking like a competitive player now. :P

I've seen his thoughts. He doesn't want new players to get bodied by more experienced players. I just can't understand this mentality of everyone is a winner. If you're less skilled, you are going to lose. Players who are skilled and practice should be rewarded for being good, not punished.

Yeah, I really don't understand that mentality since it is a competitive game, but I also think it's because he spent a ton of work and effort to make it such a unique series and spent months investing blood, sweat, and tears over the game. He probably doesn't want to turn it into just another game meant for tournament play only, and wants to rather make it just in mind of "for fun" where players can enjoy battling it out instead of worrying about seeing it being taken over by the competitive scene and turned to caring about who can win the big bucks in a tourney rather than all the fun gimmicks and things that represent each of the series it takes things from stuff.

I can't speak for him nor none of us can since he's Sakurai and we're not. The only thing we do know is that he is the one that has made these games and has definitely put all his heart into each of these games as though they are like the last, because he wants players to feel as though this could be the last one in the series and it seems like he wants to move on from Smash but he knows that there will be more games due to the sales, and he wants to give it to someone but he also knows that this is his creation and he doesn't want to move on from that. I have no idea what great lengths is it to great a game like that and for all the tough decisions to be made, espcially like a game like that, though Sakurai tries his best.

It's a big reason I hope he continues working with Smash whether or not he is in charge of it, because whether or not you like the later games or still stuck over Melee, he does make Smash what it is. While a new face might be nice, it might not make future Smash games feel like Smash, even if he does give the very vocal section of fans what they want.

You act like being competitively viable and simply fun are mutually exclusive.

its not surprising

people that know little about competitive play often make that kind of assumption

although its even more common with traditional fighting games

If you read, I was saying that he, as in Sakurai, probably is viewing it that way.

probably?

im pretty sure he even stated before that he wanted the smash series heading away from the direction of melee in some interview at one point.

Although personally that is also kinda taking a dump on fans too.

I mean you can have a competitive fighting game and it still can be viable for casual playing too.

Vsav did, im sure smash can be that way too.

Why should any of us give a fuck on how Sakurai wants to play?

How do I even react? "oh good for him"

sadly the only thing more wishful competitive players can do is... bitch about it or play project m.

You don't make any sort of refutations and you seem to agree with him or even justifying his viewpoint.

Because he directs the game and having an actual competitive following helps develops a new dimension to the game, making it more interesting?

Well, it's because I didn't want to bring my opinion since a lot of you already know my thoughts on the issue.
