post any random Mario thought on your mind

"You know what they say - all toasters toast toast!" - Mario, Hotel Mario

The funny thing is that toasters toast bread, not toast.

I mean if you toast toast you end up with black bread.

It also makes you wonder why Mario decided to waste a whole loaf of bread before removing the plug on all those toasters when he simply could have removed the plug and left it at that.

Mario should get a new TV series, formulated similarly to the old one. An glorious in-between personality of modern game Mario and past tv Mario.
Like taking the general concept of the 80s/90s superhero vibe of the DiC Entertainment cartoons but with modernized writing to replace the corny and outdated writing of the original shows?

Actually despite their writing being considered kinda cringe nowadays and them being really outdated I really like those older Mario shows. I watched all of them on DVD (except for Mario Bros. Super Show; watched all the episodes of that on YouTube) a year or two ago. I own complete DVD sets of Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario World. I'm a nerd, I know.

Some observations with Mario Golf (GBC):

  • Because of a smaller amount of characters, Mario is basically the best golfer outside of the player-made ones, which means he rightfully held the claim as the best golfer. There are no Donkey Kong or Bowser playable, who both can hit for a greater distance compared to him.
  • I wonder if Wario is the most suited for the hidden character. I guess it's fine but maybe Yoshi might be a better fit?
  • I do not know the ages of the player characters, but it's interesting how there's an option for child (Kid & Sherry) and adult (Joe & Azalea) characters. I suspect that Advance Tour was about to do this as well but was scaled back, because Buzz and Helen fit the "adult characters" group but they strangely rarely appeared.
  • Kid's sprite strongly implies that he's a dark-skinned character, but going forward it seems like they wanted to avoid portraying him as this. Like for one, the official art makes him fair-skinned, and even in the Nintendo 64 version, he's dark-skinned. They overturned this in Advance Tour, which is in hindsight, disappointing.
  • With only three saves, you can't have all four characters, so one of them will eventually be left out. So if you pick Kid, Sherry, and Azalea? Your game would have no Joe playable.
  • Obligatory mention on how Azalea looks like Daisy, especially Daisy's modern incarnation. Unfortunately Daisy didn't appear in Advance Tour but maybe it would be much easier to see how similar they look.
  • Gene Yuss may not hit as far as Tiny, but he's actually quite tough.
  • Interesting how Albatross/Hole-in-One have unique animations (both share the same one). In other games they share the same animation as Eagle, making them easier to encounter.
  • Alternate Game (team game) is definitely not easy because the partner character you are saddled with doesn't play well. If you can team up with the guy, it would probably be better because the guy plays the best out of the three, since it looks like distance appears to play a huge part in how well they play. But that's not how the game is set up.
  • This game makes me appreciate the improvements in later games. For one, you can view the ball's trajectory and adjust the distance. And also you can speed up the ball travel with the press of a button (faster gameplay), and you can apply spin if you overshot or undershot (better control). Mario Golf Super Rush might have an unusual interface, but it is a lot easier to handle the ball than this game.
  • Surprised to see how customisable the character can be, which I didn't expect much out of it. Not only can you select a special club that affects control or distance (I think you can only have one for the entire game), you can also swap draw and fade.
  • You can choose not to continue in the Marion Clubhouse. I thought it would erase the entire progress if you don't continue, but it didn't. Your achievements are saved and selecting it will set the player back to the Clubhouse. This is good because some options are not available there, namely challenging the Mario characters in a Match Game.

Bowser's Airship is left-handed.
Maybe it's a subtle reference to Shigeru Miyamoto's affection for left-handed characters due to him being left-handed in real life. Some of his Nintendo characters like Bowser Junior and Link are left-handed as a result of this, and apparently it even carries over to vehicles equipped with mechanical limbs such as airships as well.

Interestingly I used to be left-handed but now I'm right-handed and at some point I was ambidextrous.

@Salmancer I don't know but I don't think so. I think I remember reading somewhere that Yoshi (and the Yoshi species) were both named after someone who worked at Nintendo who had Yoshi as their first name, if I'm remembering right.

Was Yoshi's full name T. Yoshiaur Muchakoopas before Bowser first attacked Dinosaur Land. Or did he change it to reflect his new goal of fighting Koopas?
Well considering that all the koopas last "names" and bowsers last "name" is munchakoopa I think it's safe to say that this is there scientific name and that yoshi had this name because he related to the koopas there's actually a full on game theory video about it

There's a strong argument to be made for Tanooki Mario's inclusion in Mario Kart as a separate character from Mario, that being how joyfully he says "Tanooki" when you select him.

In The Adventures of Super Mario Brothers 3, the Mushroom Kingdom is suggested to be a presidential republic due to the election of a new head of state taking place in the episode "Princess Toadstool For President", which means Princess Toadstool should be called President Toadstool instead.

As a result of this, in my personal headcanon within the community lore, the Mushroom Kingdom is a constitutional monarchy instead so that Princess Peach is still a princess as she should be, but there's still a sensible reason as to why the Mushroom Kingdom holds elections compared to the DiC Entertainment cartoons.

There was Nintendo All-Star Battle Cards which took characters from Nintendo 64 games and put them on cards. Some they were from Nintendo games but some were from third-party games that nonetheless have Nintendo 64 games. They were from the UK Nintendo magazine Nintendo Official Magazine (later named Official Nintendo Magazine), so they might not necessarily be official, as in, comes directly from Nintendo themselves.

The interesting part about the cards are the stats. Some are sort of questionable but I guess we can laugh at them for it.

You know what would be interesting? You know how "Sonic Prime" is set in a completely different universe and a lot of the characters from Sonic in that dimension are quite different from normal, like how Dr. Eggman is short and small? What if Nintendo created a Mario game set in an alternate universe where Bowser is actually the GOOD guy and Mario is the villain? That would be so incredibly interesting and brilliant. I like alternate universes and timelines where the roles are mixed up like that. It's very different from the norm, and that's what makes it exciting, as much as I love the normal timeline and universe with Mario.

Reclusa
is hands down one of my favorite Mario villains

This is an annual post of mine regarding King Ka-Thunk's legacy to the overall Mario franchise that I have to bring him up at least once in a yearly basis.
Well, a year has passed and I once again am obligated bring up King Ka-Thunk in this forum and remind everyone of his lasting legacy to the Mario franchise.
