It's nice seeing them as friends for once. There has been so much Peach vs Pauline art, that this is very refreshing to see.

I prefer to have a fringe when I'm wearing a cap cause I think it looks cooler than looking bald at the front, so maybe those people had a similar idea?

Probably, as I do see "cool"-looking Mario and Luigi, but it's a trait of the "cute" ones too, like the anime-ish fan art of Mario I shown earlier and that one with the princesses/Deviantart fodder dressed as plumbers.
