What would be a good way to differentiate Kamek from the other Magikoopas, design-wise?

Kamek is often viewed as the villain of the Yoshi series of games, since he is often the instigator of the trouble set on Yoshi's natural habitat. Now here's the thing: Kamek is a Magikoopa, which is an enemy that's introduced in Super Mario World. The point is, Kamek doesn't look any different from any normal Magikoopa. The only distinction from another character like Yoshi and Birdo is that he has a name that differentiates himself from the rest of the Magikoopas, whereas the characters I mentioned have either "the Yoshi" or "the Birdo" or their identical species. In fact, in Mario Party 9, it doesn't make any difference even if it's just replacing "Kamek" with "Magikoopa". Even on the Mario Wiki currently, they used the same render:

Certain characters who has an accompanying species do manage to have something to differentiate themselves. For example, Toad has a red cap and a blue vest, which may not sound like much but it does go a long way in making him THE Toad. Bowser Jr. is very much identical to Baby Bowser but his scarf has a crudely drawn mouth. So what does that leave us with Kamek?

(Just for fun: seeing this image below at first glance, I thought that the characters are a random Magikoopa and Bowser Jr. respectively)

My idea is that Kamek should have a more intimidating colour to differentiate him from the other Magikoopas, such as a crimson or blacker tone, despite the fact that usually Kamek is the only Magikoopa in Yoshi games. Another idea is to give him a larger wand and thicker glasses for seniority purposes.

Thank you for reading.

they could give him purplish robes or something along those lines

but a different tone than This Random Magikoopa

i dunno i dont want changes too drastic but i cant think of anything

He doesn't need it. Wherever he appears, he makes it clear that he's no regular Magikoopa. Even in games where Magikoopas are recurring enemies.

Mario Galaxy, for example. Kamek actually talks in a cutscene, and sends Mario flying into space. No other Magikoopa in the game does that.

if they're going to give this douche his own unique design, may as well give toad, yoshi, and boom boom their own too

why do we have two separate articles on boom boom again? it's like giving the playable koopa troopa in the mario games his own article.

Need one he does not. If anything I'd just get rid of the run of the mill magikoopas, they barely do much of anything these days.

Maybe just replace him with Kammy Koopa or something.

But I think they should keep the design because as confusing as it is, we got pretty used to it.

I decided to revive this topic based on the events of Mario & Luigi: Brothership. For those who do not know, the Magikoopas in that game are coloured oranges in contrast to Kamek's blue colour. Would this be a good change for the rest of the species to make Kamek stand out?

Personally, I'm not a fan of the orange color for generic Magikoopas, I think maybe a dark blue for generic Magikoopas would work, while Kamek has a lighter blue.

I like that they're orange and I hope it stays. Definitely helps to separate Kamek from the Magikoopas.

I always have thought that Yoshi's Island DS accidentally stumbled into a wonderful idea.

In YIDS, Kamek of the past uses a sprite reminiscent of his sprite in the original SMW2:YI, both making for a nostalgic callback emphasizing how long Kamek has been around and differentiating him from present Kamek.

Now, the execution of this is a bit lacklustre amidst YIDS' mishmash of artstyles. Even if it weren't, it's not as if you want Kamek rendered in artstyles that clash with the games he's in. Even so, the core of the concept, that being giving Kamek a unique design that harkens back to the period in which he originated, strikes me as a good idea.

I think regular Magikoopas should still be able to have blue robes (or any color), so while Brothership's approach is acceptable, I wouldn't want it to be standard.

Instead, I'd like to see regular Magikoopas retain the white brimmed hats and sleeves of their current design, and for Kamek uniquely to revert to having the blue brims sported by Magikoopas in their Super Mario World debut.

It's not the most distinct design, but it would differentiate him and give him a vague feeling of oldness by harkening back to a bygone era.

I kinda miss Kammy Koopa from Paper Mario and would prefer her as the lead magikoopa. But yeah as others said Kamke existed earlier so he has the legacy to represent them all.

I think that maybe to differentiate him as the leader of the Magikoopas that he should have a red robe, and the sleeves are gold-colored or something. Maybe also gold lines going down the front of his robe as well. Like, it should be fancy, but not too fancy, you know? Also what I mean by gold lines is, like, for example, his robe has no buttons, but there are little gold lines going down the sides of where they would be, if you know what I mean. Also one person commented on here the Magikoopas don't do much these days. I think Nintendo should have them be enemies in more Mario games.

Magikoopas were enemies in Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope and were only one of three typical Mario enemies in the game, the other two being Goombas and Bob-ombs.
