What Movies Have You Seen Recently?

I watched Sherlock Holmes 2: A Game of Shadows in the theaters. Just as good as the prequel or better.

I FINALLY sat down and watched Tangled with my mom and dad...

...It was pretty good!

Yeah, I JUST saw it, so it might take some time for some things to sink in and truly judge the movie, but here are my immediate thoughts... Spoilers, I guess, but then again, it's been out for more than a year so... eh?

-The story. In good old Disney tradition, they take a classic fairy tale and update it, something you'd expect from the likes of Snow White or Cinderella, but with a 90's Disney touch. Most of the changes are for the better, in that it explains WHY Rapunzel's hair is grown out so long and shouldn't be cut. Nice move.

-The animation. I LOVE Disney's 2D hand-drawn animation, and there's a part of me that SCREAMS that this should of been hand-drawn, even if there was a HUGE effort to make it look as much like their hand-drawn classics as possible. It STILL looks great, Hell I even saw it in Blu-ray, but there's this charm and magic I feel with Disney's hand-drawn stuff that I can't really feel with their 3D stuff. It kind of distracts me sometimes, but not most of the time.

-The songs. The first two weren't all that good, but things picked up once the ruffians started singing their song. I heard a lot of things about these songs, how they didn't really fit the movie, how they come out of nowhere, how they don't flow like other previous Disney movies. Personally, I think they're alright.

-Mother Gothel. My immediate thought was "This is a female Claude Frollo, except she's keeping a child locked away for her own sake instead of feeling some kind of religious/moral obligation." By the end, I didn't get much of a Frollo vibe from her anymore. Namely, that I didn't really sympathize with her as much as I did Frollo... Well, I didn't really sympathize with him, I just felt that there was more complexity to him. He does terrible things, but he reasons with people AND HIMSELF that it's ultimately what God wants him to do. No matter what he does, he justifies it, and he mets and ultimate (ironic) fate. With Mother Gothel, she's like Lady Tremaine (of Cinderella) and Frollo mixed into one; a step-mother having total control over one person's life, but not revealing the truth about it and trying to portray herself as a good person for taking care of someone, like Frollo. In the end, she's a pretty good Disney villain, just not one I'd call one of my favorites.

-The animal sidekicks. At first I thought Pascal would be my favorite from the trailers, but really, he didn't do much aside from being cute... He was pretty much Rapunzel's only companion in the years she's been locked up, and that would be enough to keep her sanity, which is nice to know... Maximus, on the other hand, is freaking awesome. VERY funny, but at the same time, useful to the plot... Kind of like Ray from The Princess and the Frog... Sort of...

-The ruffians. These guys are just awesome, such a variety, such comedy with these guys, I kind of wish we saw more of them.

-Flynn and Rapunzel. Obviously, like with any Disney princess movie, there's romance to be had. With this one, I actually really enjoyed it. I thought I would hate Flynn Rider because of how he acted in the trailers... Little did I realize, those trailers are freaking BS, false advertisement if I ever saw it. It's like Disney is purposefully trying to hide the fact that this is a Disney movie, just to get people to see the movie, which is pretty much why this movie is called Tangled... Ah well, whatever to get the dumb masses in, I suppose. Anyway, Rapunzel was cute and funny, if a little naive, kind of like Ariel from The Little Mermaid when she finally was able to walk on land. And... I actually really liked Flynn... A lot, actually, probably one of my favorite guy heroes from a Disney princess movie.

The other characters were alright, particularly the real parents of Rapunzel who, even though they don't get a line, the expression on their faces just speaks VOLUMES about what they feel. As for my parents, my mom cheered at the idea of Rapunzel being a short-haired brunette (guess what tipe of hair she has?), and my dad kept making predictions about how the movie will end. He ended up being right, but hey, this is a Disney movie, and we don't usually watch it for surprises or twists, we watch it because... well, they're wholesome and entertaining movies for the whole family. Which is why I'm glad Disney's continuing their animation division, and it's nice to see this movie as their 50th milestone...

That... ended up being a lot longer than I thought, sorry. Anyway, good movie, recommended.

UP again. It's quite funny that Alpha's dog collar made him sound like a chipmunk; hard to take him seriously that way.

None that are appropriate for mentioning. So many bad apocalypse movies. ;-;
Oh! And Sherlock Holmes. That one was amazing. Best movie I saw all of last year, and best movie so far this year.

I know right? The new one is strangely funny with Robert Downey jr crossdressing and more... innapropriate moments.

Makes you think about Inspector Clouseau, the main protagonist of the "The Pink Panther" movies.

I watched Real Steel.

I LIKED IT.

PROBABLY THE BEST MOVIE WITH ROBOTS IN IT.

(this is my opinion btw)

It's a good movie, and I think you're right, ESPECIALLY considering the OTHER movie series with robots in it...

Hello Smashgoom. Would you like to be murdered in a violent fashion!?!?

Otherwise, I am watching Gremlins.

The Transformers movies sucked, don't deny it.

I unequivocally loved the first one (yeah, I'm weird) but the second was massively disappointing and the third one was better but not really amazing. It's like Michael Bay thought "what the fuck, making a dumb action movie is easier" and abandoned the potential of the first one for MORE EXPLOSIONS!!!!!!!! in the second and third.
