What Movies Have You Seen Recently?

Let's exclusively call Japan "Nihon" while we're at it.

Ghostbusters

Good Morning, Vietnam

Her

Even better the second time around. I'm glad I rewatched it, it's definitely one of my favorite movies. I'm still pissed that it didn't win Best Original Score, though.

My cousins couldn't understand it, all they could say is "Ew gross he falls in love with a phone". I understood it perfectly, it's my second favorite Best picture nominee of this year next to American Hustle.

when i came out of the theater with my mother she said "that was a sad movie" and i was like "yeah" and she was like "yeah it was so sad that the guy fell in love with his computer" and she was being completely serious and i just stared at her in shock that she completely missed the whole point of the movie

ok so i haven't seen the movie so feel free to disregard whatever i say, but isn't that a valid point to have? i mean, if you look at the phone as just an object incapable of actually being a person, then that does make it a sad movie. speculating on whether the phone is truly alive or not would be an interesting way for the movie to go, and lets the viewer decide what the story is. kinda how in life of pi you have to decide which of the two stories is the real one

...unless it was explicitly confirmed in the movie that the phone's alive

Sometimes when you're lonely, you start talking to inanimate objects and stuff, for comfort

yeah it is really a sad thing

you definitely should watch the movie. it's a fantastic exploration of humanity

and it's a valid point to have if you weren't paying much attention to the movie. but it wasn't about a person falling in love with their phone, but a person falling in love with a growing, evolving AI. the movie portrays the ai as having a personality every bit equal to a human's, which is solidified by Scarlett Johanson's fantastic acting.

but the point could be made that ai isn't truly alive, because it's still code doing what the code says. even if the code is to learn and grow, it's still just code.

of course, you could make the argument that humans are just genetic code doing what the code says, heh. that's why this is such a great discussion that's posed by sci-fi

the movie is less sci-fi and more just an exploration of human psychology and feelings

still, i'm sure you'd enjoy it.

well sure, i'll look into it. it sounds interesting and i've been interested in it ever since nostalgia critic mentioned the movie in one of his countdowns

also it has scarlett johansson who always gives fabulous performances

I can already see myself rage quitting half way through because of lack of Matrix references
...you can't watch any movie that doesn't have a matrix reference?

No but with that setup its a perfect chance for references

if I want to watch a movie that makes me sad I'll just6st watch a documentary, than I'll at least learn something interesting

The Sixth Sense

Bleh, that was awful. The movie had an inconsistent tone, boring characters, an uninteresting script, and terrible, terrible camerawork. I don't even understand the point of the twist at the end besides being "ooooh twist ending ooooh"

Toy Story

Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted

Happy Feet

Kung Fu Panda 2

All at the hospital, they had tons of DVDs. Even a Wii I never got to see used.

*bleep* I missed that one. Thanks to BL for covering me.

But, really, it's Shaymalan, what were you expecting?
