Suggestions for Improvement

I've found out that the ability to change your own display name has been gone.
Not only that, the ability to change your own custom title has also disappeared.

Even though I think I can guess why, I'll ask: Why did this actually happen?
 
You can't edit your name anymore because everyone was abusing the shit out of the function. Not sure about the custom title though.
 
I just changed my custom title, so it may have been. Is yours still uneditable?

Was it thought of to impose an automated time limit?

Like 90 days (I'm not joking)
 
No. I would tell you I'll consider it but I hate name changing with a passion so no, I won't even consider it.
 
I'm not objected to getting rid of name changes but I didn't consider any of mine harmful since I always had my name in my sig or member title (except on April Fools)
 
If the mods were that annoyed with the name changing, they could've at least warned us first, or ask us to tone it down, or make one of those "ATTN" topics. Just saying. :-\
 
I think there would be at least a "X times a month" limit, so you can, for example, only change your name 3 times every month.
IP.Board has this feature, but I'm not sure about SMF, though.
The removal of name changing caught me on it, because Jeff pointed that out.

Yes, there is no option for custom titles anymore (and it's not even findable in any Profile Settings).

I wonder what Zero's reaction will be when he finds out he can't change his name anymore.
 
You can all request a name change at the "Official Name Change Request Thread". It's there for a reason and it's not like we banned being able to change your names. Also, remember you are limited to one name change a month, so choose wisely.

It shouldn't be too hard to keep one name change for a month. I had my last name change, adiosToreador, for four months, while others like Shyguy himself have had it for an even greater amount of time.

The point is that if you change your name, you should stick to it for a while. Getting one name change and then being all "lol im bored of this name, time to change it" the next few days or so is the annoying part. Refer to my rant below for further details.

We could've. Would people have listened? Possibly, but I doubt it would've lasted for a long time. I'm pretty sure when someone changes their name every other day, there is no need to warn, especially when everyone is changing their display name to joke names such as the numbers or some other odd name. It's practically common sense to know that you are abusing the privilege. It makes everyone's job tougher (mafia hosts, forum moderators, etc) Since I usually find myself being the only one editing the massive name change log, it really gets on my nerves when someone changes their name constantly. It's not hard to edit the name change log, it's just a tedious task that I find myself doing every other day.

I don't know about the custom titles part though. Maybe something screwed up somewhere. I think they are fixed...?

I actually didn't plan on changing my name yet, in order to follow Herr ShyGuy's advice, to hold a name for a very long time.
The only reason I said this, is because I wanted to check out if it's true about not being able to change your own name.
 
Is it true? Once a month? Does the limit start right when you guys impose the rule or does it calculate when you last changed your name?
 
About the Custom Title, it seems I can still edit it. I'll double-check later when I have Internet in my MacBook.
 
And so I liked to change my Custom Title, and it seems that only Honks can now.
 
I think it's more because they've either mistakenly disabled it for Tech Girls and Members, or mistakenly enabled it for Honks.

I was gonna go for one name change every twi weeks but I think you overruled it.
