there's a scene in hamlet where hamlet talks to a skull, and it's always been portrayed as him holding it up as one of the iconic pictures of the play

Yeah, the whole Excalibur connection, the fact that they're both Time players, how Caliborn latches onto Dave for his Homosuck stuff, the Lil' Cal (and Dirk) connection, the shared red motif, etc. But there's also Davesprite around as a possible way for (a) Dave to be a tragic hero without the Dave dying forever (especially tragic given the I'm-not-the-real-Dave issues Davesprite caries around with him: he made himself a love martyr by breaking up with Jade, so maybe being a real martyr is the next step).

Red herrings =/= trolling, tho, as long as what really happens isn't an ass-pull just to spite the guesses. Balancing between making things obvious and making them out-of-the-blue is one of the hardest parts of writing (imo).
 
I think that might just be a statue, unless yaldabaoth is made of stone. Were the denizens confirmed to be living beings or did they just communicate through statues?
 
The denizens were described as sleeping or awake, but who's to say if that's incompatible with them also being made of stone. Those looked pretty big to just be statues, and Yaldabaoth's head being unlit is a bit worrisome to me.

wow i remembered my old hs joke speculation thread and this wasnt THAT off the mark, i just got which major villain cal is wrong

i guess you could count cal as being LE anyway if he was like one of LEs horcruxes for lack of a better word
 
well i mean, lil cal is literally responsible for the whole plot of homestuck

so i guess that would make him the villain, but neither le nor the condesce
 
It's not that easy to make out who's responsible for all that shit happening in Homestuck, due to all the time loops. We do blame LE for it, since he's a lord of time, as well as the biggest asshole in the comic, but he isn't necessarily the origin; if gamzee didn't raise him, he wouldn't end up being lord english, if lord english didn't unleash his vast honk, gamzee would never give a shit about him. If dave didn't send the insane clown posse video to gamzee, he wouldn't have flipped. If HIC didn't send the video to dave...and so on.
Same thing with Cal. He was "dead" and "hallow" before Caliborn cursed him. So really, Cal is kind of just a puppet on its own, without Calibore's curse.
But we all know the true villain is fedorafreak.

everything is a closed time loop in homestuck; nothing would exist without the thing it created in the first place

look at jack noir taking over. that happened because of john's obsession with clowns, which happened because gamzee created that puppet in his dream tower on prospit, which gamzee created because he went mental while the trolls were hiding from jack noir. if jack noir didn't exist, then the trolls would have claimed the ultimate reward and gamzee would probably not have run out of pies, and in any case they wouldn't even know who the kids were because they only found them because jack came from their session
 
Wait, I thought they found the kids because Dave made a donation of 413*10^whatever boondollar to their account or something. The Jack thing did piss (some of) them off enough to give a shit about antagonizing them, though.
 
They wouldn't've been stuck on the meteor if it weren't for Jack. It was a combination of Jack's attack and Dave's donation that led to the trolls discovering and trolling the kids, which led to Terezi getting Dave to send her the money in the past (and as mentioned before, that led to Gamzee giving John the Harlequin problem that then became Jack's problem, although whether or not Bec would've prototyped himself without the trolls meddling with Jade and her friends up until that point is unknown).

Y'know, everyone always says Gamzee "adopted" and "raised" the Cal twins, but he did no such thing at all. He found them as a baby, gave Calliope a hug, got bitten by Caliborn, chained them to a wall in the old meteor, loaded the place with food and computers and stuff, and then peaced out, never interacting with them directly again until Caliborn was running around his session. True, Gamzee's intervention did set things up so that Caliborn would eventually play Sburb and become LE, but that's hardly "raising" him.

That in and of itself is a closed time loop. Dave sent Terezi 413 boonbonds which caused the trolls to notice them and then that's how the kids learned who the trolls were, got to know them, and eventually reached the point where Terezi got Dave to send her the money.

yeah normally closed time loops would piss me off but homestuck's never been about science so i don't really care about it too much

i'm here for the characters and the humor, not for the time shenanigans
