Fire Emblem: Awakening

so i started playing this game, and i was wondering, what does the forge do?
It's been used in past games, just not sacred stones (like path of radiance used it).

Basically you can change your weapon to fit your needs. Change the power, weight, critical hit, and name.

It's especially useful to use for myrmidons and such with the critical thing, but it does come with a big price.

So, I'm going to try and beat the main game today. Can't wait!

The forge will augment the properties of the weapon you choose. You can alter the strength (or magic), hit rate, and/or critical rate but it can cost a fairly large amount of gold.

edit: nsm ninja'ing me

oh boy, let me have a look

Chrom is a level 13 Lord, and has a S-support with Sumia, and a C-support with my Avatar, Frederick, and Gaius
Lon'qu is a level 14 (almost 15) Myrmidon, and has a S-support with Cordelia, and a C-support with Vaike
Cordelia is a level 13 Pegasus Knight, and has a S-support with Lon'qu
Sumia is a level 14 Pegasus Knight, and had an S-support with Chrom
Frederick is a level 5 Great Knight, and had a C-support with Chrom, Virion, and Tharja
Tharja is a level 14 Dark Mage, and has a C-support with Frederick
Ricken is a level 8 Mage, and has a A-support with Maribelle
Maribelle is a level 5 Troubadour, and has a A-support with Ricken
Gaius is a level 5 Thief, and has a C-support with Chrom
Panne is a level 7 Taguel, with no supports
Virion is a level 15 Archer, and has a S-support with Sully, and a C-support with Frederick
Sully is a level 12 Cavalier, and has a S-support with Virion
Anna is a level 1 Trickster, with no supports
Vaike is a level 15 Fighter, and has a S-support with Miriel, and a C-support with Lon'qu
Nowi is a level 3 Manakete, and has a C-support with Gregor
Gregor is a level 11 Mercenary, and has a C-support with Nowi
Miriel is a level 11 Mage, and has a S-support with Vaike
My Avatar is a level 19 Tactician, and has a S-support with Lissa, and a C-support with Chrom
Lissa is a level 5 Cleric, and has a S-support with the Avatar
Libra is a level 1 War Monk, and has no supports
Donnel is a level 2 Villager, and has no supports
Kellam is a level 5 Knight, and has no supports
Stahl is a level 2 Cavalier, and has no supports

I've now got 2 Master Seals and 1 Second Seal, and I think there's another Master Seal in the Chapter I'm up to, which is Chapter 11.

Don't do anything yet. Wait until a unit is Level 21.

Pretty much what he's saying is that you can't promote anyone unless they're manakete or taguel.

Also if I could give you some advice, before you start Chapter 13, make sure whatever skill you're fond of that Sumia has/can get is at the bottom of her skill list, I usually try to get galeforce with her but this usually ends with her being pretty over-leveled for awhile.

Going to echo what NSM said as well. What I usually do is when a unit hits level 20, I'll use a Second Seal and have him/her do a run as another base class. For example, when Gaius became a level 20 Thief, I'd change him to a Myrmidon. Or I'll have Chrom do 2 runs as a Lord. When they hit Level 20 again, that's when I'll use a Master Seal. Also if/when Lissa and/or Maribelle reach level 10, change them to a class with offensive capabilities ASAP.

this is probably a stupid question, but uhh how do i do that?

so how do i go about getting more second seals? should i buy them from the travelling merchants (if they have them) or is there a better way to get them?

equipping and unequipping skills until you get the correct setup

also second seals start being sold around ch14 or so i think

oh alright. thanks for telling me.

also my avatar just reached level 20, what's a good class to reclass him to?

Ah, I don't think there's really any class you could go wrong with, but there might be a few I could suggest regarding skills. Have you beaten chapter 13 yet?

no, i'm about to start chapter 12

also sumia only seems to have two skills, what exactly happens in chapter 13 that makes me need to put my favorite one at the bottom?

By the end of chapter 13, you'll recruit Lucina, and she'll inherit skills from both of them, she'll automatically inherit Aether from Chrom and she'll inherit whatever Sumia's bottom skill is.

It's possible for Lucina to eventually reclass to Dark Flier and get the skill herself, but I find it better to have Sumia pass it down, plus you won't need to reclass Cynthia (the other daughter) to Dark Flier either as she can inherit it, too.

Or if you want the unspoilered version: It's not necessary, but I just think it's a little more convenient if you're willing to grind.

To name a few good ones (that your avatar can get)

Astra (Swordmaster), Ignis (Grandmaster), Sol (Hero), Lethality (Assassin), and Luna (Great Knight) are pretty good offensive skills, Sol let's you absorb half the damage you deal to your opponent which helps survivability, Lifetaker (Dark Knight) and Renewal (War Monk) are good to have too, although the latter isn't offensive.

Aegis (Paladin: Halves damage from bows, tomes and dragonstones) and Pavis (General: Halves damage from swords, lances, axes (includes magical variants) and beaststones) are good defense-wise.

If you go Mercenary, Armsthrift has a chance to not use up weapon usage, but relies on luck.

Since you married Lissa, you'll get Owain as a son, he should be able to get Lethality or Astra easily depending on whether you choose to promote him to Assassin or Swordmaster.

What do you look for most in a class? Do you prefer speed, strength, defense, etc?

i'm.... not really sure about that. i don't think i particularly prefer any of the stats.

anyway, thanks for all your help. i'll have a think about it, and see how i go.

Aether is an awesome skill too, but I only have that for Chrom and his kids, though.

Lifetaker is awesome too. Luna, Sol, Astra. I don't know if I have Lethality or not, but I'll check.

welp, just finished chapter 13 and unlocked about 8 paralouges, one of which i can't get to. looks like i'll be busy for a while.

also i'm thinking of promoting my avatar to a mage or dark mage, since i never really used the sword much, so it's at level E right now, while my magic is at level B

I should mention, if you second seal from an unpromoted class, the only options you'll only be able to choose from unpromoted classes, but if you at least reach level 10 with a promoted class (like the grandmaster), your second seal should give you the option to choose from any available promoted classes.

So you could run through grandmaster for a little and pick up the Ignis and Rally Spectrum skills, or go with mage/dark mage to get magic+ 2 and focus (Critical +10 when no allies within a 3 tile radius)/Hex (Avoid -15 to all adjacent enemies) and Anathema (Avoid and Critical Avoid -10 to all enemies within a 3 tile radius)

If you second seal now, Mage leads to Sage and Dark Knight, and Dark Mage leads to Sorcerer and Dark Knight.

Sage allows use of tomes and staves, and the skills Rally Magic (Magic +4 to all allies within a 3 tile radius for one Turn when the Rally command is used) and Tomafaire (Magic +5 when equipped with a Tome).

Sorcerers can only use tomes, but can utilize dark magic, so you can use stuff like nose for a tooth (I mean, Nosferatu) which drains the enemy's health, and Ruin which has a pretty high critical rate. They also get the skills Vengeance (Deals (user's Max HP - Current HP)/2 extra damage) and Tomebreaker (Hit rate and Avoid +50 when the enemy is equipped with a tome).

Between Sages and Sorcerers, Sages will have a higher Skill and Speed growth rate, but Sorcerers will be a little tankier with higher HP and Defense growths.

Dark Knights are similar to the Tactician/Grandmaster because of their ability to use swords and tomes, and stats-wise there isn't a big difference. They should have better movement (depending on the environment) because they're on horse.

The skills they'll net you are Slowburn (Hit rate and Avoid increases by 1 each Turn, up to the 15th Turn) and Lifetaker (User recovers 50% HP after they defeat an enemy during the user's Turn)

Tl;dr: second sealing from an unpromoted class gives you unpromoted classes as options, but a promoted class lvl 10+ gives you both promoted and unpromoted options.

Sages are faster and have higher skill and use tomes and staves, Sorcerers can use dark magic and have higher hp and def, dark knights are like tacticians and can use swords/tomes, but are horseback.

As far as inheritance goes, if you're unwilling to grind Lissa to get Galeforce, Renewal from her War Cleric class is a good choice, but if you do pass that down you can probably cross off passing down Lifetaker or Sol from your Avatar(Unless you're really big on health regeneration)

well i already promoted him to a mage, so hopefully that won't end up too bad

also Chrom, Henry, Lon'qu, Cordelia, and Sumia are all almost to level 20. any recommendations on what to promote/reclass them to?

Generally if someone has access to dark flier, I'll have 'em go through that class, disregarding galeforce though I tend to keep pegs as falcon knights.

Chrom I go with great lord, and then Swordmaster for Lon'qu.

Haven't used henry much, so I can't say.
