Unpopular opinions about the Mario series

Its a simple fact. No Mario game has all that great of a story.
Greatness is in the eye of the beholder. I find the stories in some Mario games to be complete masterpieces.

You'd still be wrong. Just because you wish to live in ignorance doesn't suddenly make what you believe true.

Here's a thought: opinions aren't a matter of right or wrong, they're ****ing opinions.

And its still possible to have incorrect opinions. Not everything in the world is subjective.

But a matter of whether something is good or not is. Especially something that's a damn video game. Now I might believe you if you told someone who said "9/11 was good" that they're wrong, but the quality of any aspect of a game is entirely up to whoever plays it. Hell, do you hear me calling out the fans of Sticker Star for being "wrong?" No, I just say I disagree with their opinion.

Yoshi is adorable.
Indeed, but allow me to list ten things more adorable than Yoshi:
-Waluigi
-Fawful
-Bowser Jr.
-Antasma
-SpongeBob
-All the Mario babies
-Stanley the troll
-Luigi
-Peach
-Bowser

Again no. Subjectivity only goes so far and this is a prime example. They are average at best. Its a simple fact. Everything in them has been done before many, many times. You're refusal to accept that doesn't suddenly make it not so.

Galaxy is my favorite Super Mario game.
How is this unpopular? It's one of the big five (along with 3, World, 64, and Thousand-Year Door).

Dude, I get that you don't particularly adore any Mario stories, but that is your opinion. FTG64 has his own opinion, and it's fine that it may be the more out-there one. It's still his opinion, even if most people disagree. You can't change the definition of opinion just to say that yours is fact.

I like sunshine more than Galaxy.

Interesting enough, FLUDD isn't even my favourite part about sunshine. Its how Mario moves that I love about it. He moves like a parcour expert if you know what your doing.

How the hell is Bowser more adorable than Yoshi?!

Also, Sticker Star is my second favorite game

Actually, I find Bowser cute, not in a creepy way, but like if I saw a little turtle. I used to find him ugly looking like one of those Yugi-oh monsters, I guess I got used to it or his Super Mario 3d World and Mario Party 10 look help this.

bowser is the only one of the things he listed that i would have agreed it was more adorable than yoshi...

also fawful guy and bowser guy, why do the two of you have the same arguments every single day? are you actually trying to convince one another of something? because it's pretty obvious at this point that neither of you is ever going to

It depends on the portrayal, but most of the time Yoshi is designed to be adorable for the sake of being adorable. It creates a very forced kind of cuteness that can seem unappealing to some people and have the opposite effect instead.

Some people also find Bowser cute because he isn't really supposed to be, but manages to be anyway through a combination of the Mario-series' cartoony art style, his mannerisms, and him being a plump, grumpy turtle.

EDIT, because I only just now saw it:

You know, I agree that Mario plots have a habit of treading cliche ground and that looking at them by themselves, they are neither particularly innovative, nor overly complex. Paper Mario is just the classic Mario foils Bowser's plan tale. TTYD, as much as I absolutely adore the game, is a generic "hero collects macguffins to fight the ultimate evil" story. SPM is a reheat of the Romeo and Juliet conflict. Very cliched indeed.

However, some people don't mind that, because it's Mario retelling those stories, with its own iconic setting and style, which has NOT been done before. You are perfectly within your right to not like this sort of thing. I can see why you would find it dumb and uninteresting. But if you go as far as telling other people they are outright WRONG for enjoying this stuff, you are crossing the line. They are cliches, but whether you like or hate them is a matter of opinion, not fact, no matter how much you try dressing it up as such. You do not have the authority to dictate what other people can or cannot like.

I know that you and FTG bickering about mario plots ad nauseam is some sort of established ritual at this point, since it pops up all over this forum and it seems like it happening has become a prerequisite for every thread that is created here. But if you start dragging other people into it and declaring them objectively wrong for what they like, you are going to have a problem.

Genji actually made a good explanation of how Bowser was seen as a cute critter.

I got used of his Giga Bowser appearance and he probably was meant to scary.

I didn't find Kersti annoying, my only problem was that her advices were actually descriptions of the place were Mario was standing. But other than that there is toleration.

I never said he was wrong for enjoying them. I am merely pointing out the fact that they are nothing special.

You told him explicitely that his opinion is factually wrong. Wording it like that is a very clear admission of thinking his or anyone elses appreciation for what happens in those games is invalid, there's really no margin to dance around that. So either you are backpedaling right now to save you from the consequences of this, to be completely frank, pretty arrogant claim of having factual opinions, or you just got very unlucky in picking your words. I don't have any way to know which is the case, but I hope it is the latter.

But let me tell you something about opinions and facts:

The plots of Mario RPGs are simple and conventional. That is fact. How you interpet that fact however, whether you can forgive them for that and enjoy them for the context they provide, or condemn them for feeling uninspired to you, that is a matter of opinion, and must be decided by everyone by themselves.

You don't like the plots of those games for being cliched. He and others do because they can appreciate them in spite of that. Both of your opinions are valid, and none is more valid than the other. This argument should have no reason to even exist.

Hardly arrogance. Simple facts. They are average, subjectivity only goes so far. Enjoyment of them is irrelevant. An average plot is an average plot, no amount of personal enjoyment will change that. I enjoy many things and will still openly admit to them being average, and that includes some of the Mario plots.

If you see that as arrogance I don't really care.
