I feel I like I could make a joke out of this.Fawful said:Hotel Mario>Sticker Star
Both are bad but at least the former has humorous cutscenes.
Another thing is that the story isn't as dark as people say it is. It had dark MOMENTS, sure, but it's not the overall darkest Nintendo game (that goes to Mother 3). Same thing applies (although I'm going off the topic a bit) to Zelda: Majora's Mask.Fawful said:^I agree, although the story is what makes it my favorite Mario RPG. I'd still enjoy it if the story was lighter, but my favorite RPG would probably be Superstar Saga or Bowser's Inside Story instead.

Like I just said, it had dark moments, it's not really dark throughout. What I meant was that's what the cult thought.Gardevoir said:Jack Frost said:Super Paper Mario is a good game (even without the dark, cult story).
...how was that story dark

You mean if it had more dark humor? That would be good, but I wouldn't want it to go through the "d@mn 4th Choas Emerald, and try to play it for laughs (like "ooh we swore we funny")Mario Party X said:It would be more interesting if the "darkness" in Super Paper Mario was tongue-in-cheek.

I mean, the darkness is really over-the-top. Like, the developers know how ridiculous it is to juxtapose the theme of Super Paper Mario with a Mario game, but they exaggerate it. I'm not saying dark and edgy or funny in an unintentional way, but in a way where they clearly didn't take it seriously.Jack Frost said:You mean if it had more dark humor? Well, Sticker Star took some people's fathers' jobs at the factory...Baby Luigi said:Fawful said:Hotel Mario>Sticker Star

Um, I don't think that would be totally unpopular: you're liking the game ironically, not because it's a good game or something you actually do like.
I'm the opposite. When I was playing through it the first time, I loved the surprising dark twists it took here and there, was irritated that they didn't play Luigi's brainwashing straight, and felt like them going back and undoing both the obliteration of the Sammer Kingdom and Luvbi's sacrifice in the aftergame undermined both plotlines (of course, seeing as it's Mario it's not unexpected that there'd be a happy ending for everyone (except Nastasia), but still).Mcmadness said:Instead it's all played straight and made more boring as a result.Mario Party X said:It would be more interesting if the "darkness" in Super Paper Mario was tongue-in-cheek.
Other RPGs had some dark moments too. Midbus's death scene in BIS, Toads getting sucked dry by trees in PiT, all the shit Bowser goes through in M&L:SS, etc. In fact, TTYD measures up pretty well to SPM as far as dramic moments and storyarcs go. Grodus full-on threatened to kill Peach at the end, and then she got possessed by a demon and used as a puppet in the final battle (no different than Luigi in SPM), plus TEC died (for a little while, anyway, like Luvbi), peeped on Peach in the shower (not dark, but still not your typical Mario humour), and then there was that whole nude mission she had to go on. Mario getting his identity stolen and having his friends turn on him was pretty harsh too, the Grubba arc had its moments, and Vivian's plotline was nice and weighty for a Mario game (especially if you look at the uncensored one where her sisters were tormenting her over her transgender status, which is a very real issue people face).Jack Frost said:Like I just said, it had dark moments, it's not really dark throughout. look out youll cut yourself on all that edge [and by that i mean paper]Jack Frost said:You mean if it had more dark humor? That would be good, but I wouldn't want it to go through the "d@mn 4th Choas Emerald, and try to play it for laughs (like "ooh we swore we funny")
