Unpopular opinions about the Mario series

Swoon.exe should be made into its own game.

A fan made one exists but it's pretty basic

What about a game ENTIRELY about Bowser, where your goal is to kidnap Princess Peach? Not an RPG, like Bowser's Inside Story (that had Mario and Luigi playable anyway), but a platformer?

I'm sure many people would like Bowser to get his own game.

Mario Kart 7 is lackluster (minus the great new addition of gliders) compared to Wii and 8. It's still much better than DS, though. Also, I don't like what I've seen of Double Dash, because while this where the level design starts getting good in the series, it's just gimmicky with the 2-player thing.

Meh I think all Mario Kart games have their good tracks and bad tracks

I agree. What DS has, though, is a far superior local multiplayer.

Mario Kart Double Dash has mostly boring tracks and it soundtrack is not good.

The Bowser's castle song was good.

But that stuff is pretty much always good.

While I disagree, this probably an extremely popular opinion.

Which part do you disagree with?

i personally think mk64 couldve already had much better track design and they just were lazy

like really lazy

I agree that the design wasn't too good (although in my opinion it was at least less bad than SMK and MKSC), but the music was top-notch most of the time. It can be catchy with the Raceway themes and Moo Moo Farm/Yoshi Valley or atmospheric like the best Rainbow Road song in the whole series and Toad's Turnpike.

I was about to disagree but then I remember Diddy Kong Racing and Beetle Adventure Racing which existed on the same console and now I really agree with you.

To be fair though Mario Kart 64 was like the very first of the popular mascot race games that had fully 3D tracks. This was new territory at the time. Diddy Kong Racing and other games like Crash Team Racing that people cite better then MK64 had time to look what Mario Kart 64 did right and what it did wrong.

It wasn't perfect, but that's because they didn't know what WAS perfect at the time. It was all experimental.

They still shouldn't have used the ugly as ---- sprites as racers imo

I think there is some truth that Mario Kart 64's primitive look and designs are based on having little to no 3D kart racer to base their idea on. Sometimes I find that some of their tracks have narrow roads when compared to later entries. Toad's Turnpike, for one, looks difficult to navigate on account of its narrow roads. Compared to Mario Kart 8's version, its wider roads allow more freedom in traversing, though there is an extra lane of cars this time.

As for the sprites, if I recall correctly, the decision to use sprites stem from the usage of processing power. It must be more intensive to use 3D characters, so they stuck with sprites. It does make me curious on how Mario Kart would have looked like if N64-style 3D is used, since all the Mario series characters have different 3D models (compare Super Mario 64, Mario Golf, Mario Party and Super Smash Bros.' Mario models to get an idea).

I do have to say the Mario Kart 64 sprites look very indistinguishable in what the characters are doing beyond their basic designs. I mean, I thought that the characters were static even though they were hurt, but take Peach, for example. If I didn't pause the screen, I wouldn't have known that she is covering her face when she gets hurt. Same goes with Mario putting his hands on the side of his head when he gets hurt.

Thanks for reading.

the mk64 character models would look way more polygonal

not sure if thats an improvement over the prerendered sprites or not

Mario Party, Smash Bros., and Mario Tennis used polygonal models perfectly fine
