Unpopular opinions about the Mario series

This is basically the role that Toad fills, but having a Toadette from the start (perhaps instead of Toad) would have been interesting, and, dare I say, could have improved at least some aspects of later Nintendo stuff. Like maybe the way Retainer could have been used would be completely different than the way Toad was used, which would lead to different characters participating in the games.

They would've had to forgo the open-fronted vest design if they wanted to make the Toads girls, or at least give them shirts underneath, methinks. Like in the anime movie.

Then you'd get purists arguing that her outfit shouldn't have been changed and how Nintendo is ruining their favorite characters. Admittedly, those arguments would probably make for great entertainment, but I'd like to think Nintendo's not complying anytime soon.

They could use Flurry as an example of Nintendo getting away with bare-chested lady characters as part of their arguments for doing it again. Hell, Bowletta too. Then the pro-change people will point out that Daisy's shorter hair wasn't a bad alteration, but that will be followed by the realization that had she maintained her long locks, she'd be in SSB4 instead of Rosalina, and then the shit will really hit the fan...

So yeah, it would be entertaining.

Bare-chested women are fine as long as they lack nipples.

Nipples on ANYTHING are usually distracting and gross and designs that depict bare chests regardless of gender are typically better off without them. It's the same reason fingernails usually look bad and distracting on cartoon characters.

Not saying censoring them is a-ok and all (it's actually pretty ridiculous if you think about it)

My original point was directed at the argument against bare-chested female Toads. I'm sure Nintendo can design female Toads that have the same build as male Toads, but they have female hairstyles. People shouldn't be complaining, especially since we got things like Flurrie.

Yeah I know it's just me going off in a tangent

Anyway I really don't see how a female Toad not having a top is a big issue anyway? Unless you're immature.

Huh?
Insane troll logic.

Flurrie's more of an exception than the norm, isn't she? Usually they have at least a top. Look at other female cartoon-ish characters where male characters get to go free: Dixie, Candy, and Tiny all have at least tops, Amy Rose and other Sonic characters wear dresses, Minnie Mouse usually has a dress, Lola Bunny from the Looney Tune cartoons wears a dress, Babs from Tiny Toons wears the full set, etc. There are examples that go contrary to that, like Dot (no shirt), and Fifi (nothing). You're free to make arguments on whether or not this should be the case, but I think people are used to female characters generally having more clothes than the males for whatever reason, which will, in turn, cause them to complain.

I don't know if this is unpopular, but I really liked Toad's current raspy voice. Some must have liked it when he sounded cleaner, but I think his current raspy voice made him sounded more distinct. I guess it also bothers me when people joked that Toad had throat cancer or smoked too much.

Thanks for reading.

I like Toad's current voice more than his MK64 voice

On the subject of voices, I like Luigi's current voice much more than his old N64 voice. (He sounds like a girl)

His old N64 voice sounded deeper back then compared to today, surprisingly. Are you thinking of the Japanese version?

I guess so, but Charles Martinet's Luigi was always lower pitched. He had that deep voice in Tennis 64, Golf 64, Mario Kart 64, and Mario Party 3 (where his voice sounds more contemporary).

I like both, but I prefer his newer voice.

I always got the impression that Luigi's current voice acting is more preferable by anybody. Never seen the opinion that his older voice (either in Mario Kart 64, Mario Party or Mario Party 2) being preferable as a popular one. When Luigi got popular, his current voice is already the norm.

That being said, I wonder what happens if Mario Kart 64's English voices were used in Mario Party 1 and 2 (in those games, the Japanese voices from Mario Kart 64 were used). I guess Wario's popular saying would have been "Aiyaiyaiya!" instead of "No I missed!".

"Aiyaiyaiyaa" is funny, but I don't think it will surpass "D'oh I missed" or "Oh my god!".

I do agree that those two catchphrases are legendary.

I was referring more to the context of how the Runaway Guys popularised the "D'oh I missed" keyphrase when they did their Mario Party collaboration. I guess "Aiyaiyaiyaa" might be used by them, but I imagine the impact won't surpass the current reality where "D'oh I missed" is used.

Thanks for reading.

There are people who hate the DS version, so your opinion is pretty unpopular.
