MAJOR UPDATE: Rick Santorum is projected to win the state of Louisiana. Missouri finishes voting today and it's more than likely that it'll also go to Santorum. Next up is Maryland, Wisconsin, and Washington D.C., all on April 3rd.

I think a Santorum/Obama race would be hilarious to watch, but I find it terrifying that people seriously consider Santy the best option. Not terrifying as in that I actually think he'll win, but terrifying in that there are people so sick that they genuinely like the man who said religious tolerance made him want to throw up, and that America was more Christian 100 years ago (sorry, women and black people, Rick Santorum thinks life was better when you had no rights!).

Romney? Gingrich? Paul? I get it. I get why people like them. But Santorum is just awful.

That literally makes no fucking sense.

I have no idea what you're trying to say, but I actually like Bush a lot in retrospect. He was obviously a deeply principled man who (in his way) advocated religious tolerance rather than hate and fear. I don't agree with a lot of the things he did during his presidency, but, like Ron Paul, his integrity (which was taken for granted while he was in office) is something that is mostly lacking from the republican party today.

In short, I didn't want to punch him every time he opened his mouth, partially because he came across as an honest and decent (albeit bumbling) person, and partially because he tended to say hilarious Bushisms that gave everybody a good laugh.

Then something sad happened and we got the upgraded Bush, i.e. Rick Perry, who had all of the stupid and none of the principles.

I'm guessing he means "Do you hate Santorum more than you hate Bush?".

Oooooooooohhhh.

Yeah. Yeah, I do hate Santy more than Bush.

I guess I should have looked back at what I posted last night calling Santorum "Santy," then I would have understood what he was saying.

Wait just a minute while I head back a few pages to find where you were like "Romney, Paul, Perry, Bachmann, and Santorum are fine, but GINGRICH IS HORRIBLE" which happened to coincide with Gingrich being the frontrunner.

But now that Santorum is challenging Romney, you say the same thing except replacing Santorum with Gingrich and vice versa.

Bush was a decent president, not great but not horrible. Everyone seems quick to forget his success in dealing with the aftermath of 9/11 in which he excelled.

Because they then think of his failure in dealing with the aftermath of Katrina.

:???:

Because they keep getting worse

first Bachmann was the crazy one who it scared me that people liked

then Gingrich showed up and made Bachmann look sane

and now we have a genuine religious fanatic in the race.

My point is more that you judge the candidates after they get thrown into a bad image, not before.

Also, I found the quote if anyone cares. Not trying to personally attack you, but my point stands that it's easy to judge people as wrong when they're painted in a negative light.
Nosferatu Man about Gingrich said:
He's ruthless, vicious, and just an all-around horrible guy. Rick Perry is good-hearted but not very bright, Michelle Bachmann is bursting at the seams with crazy, Herman Cain is hilariously clueless, Mitt Romney is a blatant opportunist, hell, even Barack Obama is too concerned with being polite and calm to actually get anything done, but Newt Gingrich is the only candidate who is just a dreadful person. At least the others mean well.
Oh wait, you don't mention Santorum because this was the point in his campaign where he was not even known of.

Uh... are you saying I should decide I don't like someone before they do anything wrong?

You should judge them before they're labeled by others as one way or the other. I don't know, I'm not very good at putting my words together for some reason right now.

Dr. Javelin said:

1. I'm not judging them, I'm forming an opinion based on their actions. 'Judging' implies that my opinion is set in stone and can never change, which isn't true.
2. Where are you getting the idea that I'm basing my opinion of them on what other people have said? Have you considered that maybe the reason people think Santorum is a religious fanatic is not because they're all liberal elitist commie zombies, but perhaps because he is?

1. Fair enough, unless you don't keep an open mind about this and don't plan on changing your opinion if he does something good.
2. You didn't seem to have any problem with Santorum when he was behind Gingrich and Romney, but now that he's a frontrunner you suddenly have all these issues with him.

Coincidence? I THINK NOT

Like I do.

I've always hated Santorum.
Yes, but you say the same thing about every GOP candidate and you've never really discussed your reasons for hating on them, which doesn't give you much credit in my book. Scarecrow supports his opinions so I'm more inclined to give them value.

Rick Santorum is against same-sex laws, which I think is just a way to infringe people's rights and that's it. He also wants this intelligent design taught in schools. Evolution is a more valid theory, anyway.

I support strongly a separation of the church and state, but he thinks it can't be 100% because of the First Amendment, but what? The founding fathers wanted a separation of church and state. They even said that this nation wasn't founded on the basis of the Christian religion!

I support national coverage by the government for Social Security, just like in Europe. It's a shame that the U.S. is the only major developed country without it. Something is wrong.

Santorum doesn't believe in climate change, calling it "junk science", which is absolutely ludicrous. He needs to study the scientific method. He can't go around calling something that has a valid basis and a very broad consensus of scientists from major organizations junk.

Disagree with me all you want, but this is the reason I'm definitely not supporting Santorum.

And that is why I don't state any reasons, Jav.

Because everyone else already says it. There's nothing to say.

I don't understand why the GOP acts as if the New Deal and stuff like that is the worst thing ever.

They advocate slashing federal budget. The federal budget is cut. What happens next? Another recession. This happened during FDR's time.

Some of these GOP candidates need to study history AND science.

I have a mohawk. Look up liberal in the dictionary and I'm sure you'll find my picture somehwere. But If I could vote, I'd vote for Rick Santorum because he believes strongly in the things he believes in and will not compromise and he loves his family.

edit: on some things im liberal but my official pov is libertarian anarchist. some liberal things and some conservative things cross-over with that pov.

It's not advocating the closure of all government programs, just ones that are too invasive, superflous, or a waste of money. That's not the same thing.

You're a liberal anarchist with a mohawk, but you'd vote for the guy who thinks that birth control should be illegal, women shouldn't have large roles in the military, and pornography should be banned? Hmmm, I think you're looking in the wrong section of the dictionary- try 'insane'

Well, what programs do they think is invasive?

Those aren't liberal values.

Yeah.... what I meant by "liberal values" I mean the term, "liberal" is broad-minded and progressive. The unwillingness to compromise is not broad-minded. Also, conservatives emphasize family values more than the liberals.

I'm not trying to attack anybody here. In fact, I'd like to hear what the people supporting the GOP have to say. It's nice to understand why right-wingers think this way.
