United States Presidential Election, 2012

It's not like they don't have enough money to spend on these campaigns anyways.

I'm really confused. Politico has Obama's vote count at 258, while NBC and Fox News have him at 275.
They're putting Ohio for Obama already even though it isn't finalized.

Then again, California has 10% of its votes counted. It'll be much closer in the end, but Romney may win the popular vote anyway.

I'm sure Republicans will find this result a reasonable settlement for the 2000 election and respond calmly and resolutely.
Certainly. Despite the fact that I feel Al Gore would have been a terrible president, he should have won. A popular-vote system would be much more accurate and wouldn't alienate Republicans in Democrat states and Democrats in Republican states, and really would not hurt any voter.
Samuel J Tilden would have been the bestest president

A second instance of a popular vote losing in the span of 4 elections would certainly bring more attention to possibly changing the issue (especially since it's the other party this time)

Still plenty of votes to count before we can tell if that's going to happen, though

Yeah CNN's counting Ohio as blue, but Romney is ahead now? They may have spoken too soon there. It shan't make a difference in the end though, seeing that Obama's starting to run away with Florida as well as Virginia.

It's possible Romney can still win the election but unlikely as he's slightly leading in Ohio but behind in Virginia and Florida which are almost finalized.

What's obama's lead in Virginia

Something around 60,000? The figure isn't on atm but I recall that Virgil Goode didn't take away enough votes from Romney to make a difference and Goode had ~13,000.

Assuming this holds up...

Congratulations to President Obama. Hopefully he does the job right over the next four years.

Remember, though, that most of the yet-to-be-counted votes in Ohio are from Cuyahoga County, the Cleveland area, which is pretty liberal.

Yeah I figured that was the case Ralph. Obama has reclaimed his lead in Ohio.

Obama won Colorado so no matter what happens he's won the election

Well, Obama is finally ahead in the popular vote. With Texas almost finished counting and California only a third of the way there, it looks like Obama will be able to lock up the popular vote and avoid any electoral controversy, though it will still end in a close race.

Romney conceded to Obama over telephone and congratulated him in a short speech. It's official.

That speech sucked

I don't think he was being sincere. That smile looked forced.

Dude just lost, most people aren't happy when they lose.

Well, I voted Romney for those of you who care. Please don't bother to berate me about it or ask why. Not a single fuck will be given.

When has Romney ever been sincere?

I was going to ask why, just out of curiosity, but it appears you're being a dick, so I won't.

Maybe next time, the Republicans can rethink their whole "electability" thing (you know, dismissing all other candidates because one has the spotlight and is crowned as the only one with a shot by the GOP elite)... Because it hasn't worked in 2008, and it failed them again in 2012. Maybe they won't disenfranchise an entire wing of their party again, too. Furthermore, perhaps they can nominate somebody who can actually talk about the issues. I think The People look for substance in a candidate's plan, not some empty talking points.

Maybe they'll get it right in 2016.

Also, it's too bad Michelle Bachmann didn't lose her seat in Congress. I don't know much about her opponent, but having her in Congress is simply embarrassing. Glad to see somebody gave her a run for her money and rattled her up a bit, though.

Agreed 100%.
