Next Paper Mario game (Likely on Wii U)

I have just now gained access to the SSB4U trophy textures, and noticed something.

As you can see, that's not existing artwork, yet it's way more hi-res than the original sprites as well. Why would they make such a huge jump in quality just for a trophy/cameo? IIRC Brawl didn't do that. I think they may be hinting at a Wii U Paper Mario with similar graphics.

Pretty far-fetched theory, but I wouldn't exactly rule it out either. Just decided to throw it out there.

Its probably just higher resolution sprite from the game like most of Brawl's trophies were.

Brawl's Paper Mario trophies were all either existing artwork (Mario, Luigi, Peach, Bowser, Goombella) or sprites ripped directly out of Super Paper Mario (Wedding Peach/Bowser). There's also Fracktail, who seems to use the same exact textures he had in SPM too.

These, on the other hand, all seem completely new and redone.

Brawl's trophies weren't artwork. Brawl's trophies were models ripped straight from the games. This one is no doubt the same thing.

Lots of trophies in SSB4 are new or higher resolutions. Daisy trophy for example, is a new one, but that doesn't mean anything.

Its still an in game model. They just take it and pose it to resemble the artwork. Hell Mario's been in that exact same pose in TTYD.

You are grasping at straws.

In-game models generally don't have those pitch-black borders. Those images are literally the same down to the shading.

Hell, I'll even admit that my theory about hinting at a new PM is straw-grasping, but you can't deny that trophy uses artwork.

Does it look even remotely like any variation of this?

That's Mario's sprite from TTYD.

im pretty sure this is how it went down:

yea make sure you make it hd n shit lol

tl;dr they prob just touched up a few things they thought needed improvement
linking a new trophy remodel to a new game sounds pretty absurd if you ask me
but it is clear that his right hand is different from spm and the trophy

It's funny how you say that when Smash Bros. has been making trophy models specifically for their games literally since Super Smash Bros. ---ing Melee came out. This is really how far you let your bias about a particular series go.

Hmm, Baby Mario got a brand new spanking 3D model trophy in Melee, that probably means there'll be a new Yoshi's Island game on the GCN! Oh and Rayman, Globox, and Barbara got a high-res trophy, must mean a 3D Wii U Rayman game! And let's not forget that 3D Super Princess Peach game that came out because of the Perry the Trophy 3D model hint!

That Baby Bowser trophy in melee clearly showed there was a yoshi story sequel coming.

I'd always wanted him to be a partner

I'd ditch the parter mechanic all together if I could have Luigi and Peach on the team.

Eh, I like partners as long as 1. they have good development and 2. they're actually useful. I wouldn't mind having a Paper Mario game with three full story arks. Mario could have the old style with partners, Bowser could be alone but more powerful, and IDK about the last one. Maybe Peach with a unique battle style? Anyway, you could switch arks at any time, but the order you play them in affects the outcomes of the game. For example, there could be a large, cracked tree in one part. Mario nor Peach could normally not cross it until later in the game, but if Bowser knocks it down they can.

You might want to delete the "Likely on Wii U" part since Nintendo said there won't be another Mario game on Wii U

*coughcough*mario maker & yarn yoshi*coughcough*

Even if that doesn't count, Nintendo never explicitly said they weren't making more Mario games on the Wii U. They were just referring to most of 2015. There's nothing that says Nintendo couldn't announce a Mario game set for 2016 or 2017 at the next E3 or something. Don't really care if it's the next Paper Mario game or something else Mario related. Either way I don't think we've seen the end of Wii U Mario games.

I'd rather not Bowser be playable again. Was never fond of what this series did with him beyond the first game.
