An action/adventure Mario and Sonic game

I just don't get it, he's a bloody pallet swap of shadow devoid of any charm or personality in a terrible game thats horribly written and takes itself way too seriously.
Only one of his forms was a palette swap. While Mephiles' most common form still bears resemblance to Shadow, he had more of a demonic appearance and was far from being a mere recolor.

As for him not having any personality... I don't know where that's coming from. Along with being incredibly manipulative, he's been shown to be quite psychotic, too.

His appearance is almost like one of those ''original character do not steal'' jokes you see online. I mean Sonic has had some crap villains before like Black Doom but at least they had a unique character design amongst their peers.

Sure he's technically got a personality but he has one the same way Mario has one, its bland and boring. Being psychotic isn't very interesting either, pretty much all the villains are, even Eggman. Uses live animals to power his machines

Yes, but unlike Mephiles, Robotnik has never tried to destroy the universe.

Speaking of Black Doom, he also happens to be one of my favorites. Dark characters and storylines may not be your thing, Mcmadness, but I, for one, happen to like them quite a bit. As it said in the image Magikrazy posted, "Diff'rent Strokes". I have my opinions, you have yours. Let's just leave it at that.

Of course Eggman didn't try to destroy the universe. He wants to own it. He wants people to suffer under his rule as he controls everything. Eggman is a megalomaniac with delusions of grandeur. Not some boring badguy who wants to destroy everything just because.

And just so were clear, there are plenty of villains that want nothing but destruction and death that I like! But thats because they have an interesting way of going about it. They will have a unique design, interesting plans or a charm to their psychotic aspects. Mephiles doesn't have any of that and frankly he feels completely out of place in a world like Sonic, just like most of the stuff that came from the late 90s to mid 2000s Sonic games.

Yeah, I'll admit that they didn't expand upon Mephiles' motives enough (possibly because of Sonic 2006 being rushed), and they didn't make it a hundred percent clear as to whether he wanted to remake the universe in his own image (like Dimentio), or he simply planned to leave it as it was after it was ravaged. However, I do still give him some credit because of the great lengths he went to in order to achieve his goal. Villains like him who use and manipulate people around them, and then promptly dispose (or attempt to dispose) of said people once they're no longer of any use have always been my cup of tea.

His plan isn't even that great to begin with. All he has to do is make Elise cry. Thats it. There were so many simpler ways he could have gone about that when he decides to just shoot Sonic in the back (which was complete BS btw) you wonder why the hell he didn't do that in the first place. There is nothing wrong with a diabolical villain but the way he does it is so half-assed and stupid I'm surprised anyone could take him seriously.

When it comes to Mario talking, implied speech that other characters translate would work much better.

Mario talking in a cutscene is not going to happen.
Even so, I wouldn't rule cutscenes out. After all, Classic Sonic was mute in Generations, and that game still had them.

That's a pretty good question. That was never explained in-game, but Mephiles may have been too occupied with collecting the Chaos Emeralds. Yeah, he was (somehow) able to make the emeralds warp to him, but I don't think he was able to do that with just one emerald alone. He most likely needed at least two for that. Around the time he first encountered Silver and Blaze, he was only shown to have one Chaos Emerald with him. Mephiles didn't get the second one until later in the game, during Shadow's portion of Dusty Desert. I'm not saying this is absolutely the case, it's just a theory.

I'll agree with you on this one. Sonic's death could have been handled a lot better, but that was still quite an accomplishment for Mephiles to have successfully pulled off something that many others have tried and failed (although Robotnik did come pretty close in Sonic Adventure 2).

I meant like a cutscene
Speaking of cutscenes...
We need cutscenes where they talk. Not like in the Mario and Sonic Olympic series.
This would require the games getting an actual plot.

Really I think it just relates to the fact that 06's storyline is just poorly written and poorly constructed. And killing Sonic would have been impressive had it actually been a good moment. Instead its some BS thing where he just sneaks behind him and shoots him in the back. To put this in perspective, Sonic has survived being hit with missles and smacked around by giant robots. How is this one guy able to just zap him in the back and kill him? It just feels so forced.

By comparison Eggman outwitting Sonic into a trap was a far more effective (though I still find it ultimately pointless because nobody believed for a second that he was dead)

Hell I was more impressed when Eggman was revealed to be behind the time eater and that ( before they turned Super) he and his younger self were swatting both Sonics around like flies.

But, I'm not talking about the Olympics here. I'm talking about a "real" Mario and Sonic game. Talking cutscenes in an M&S Olympic game would make no sense to me, since the plot in those is non-existent and it would be boring just to hear "We have to save the Olympics!" on repeat.
It would be annoying to hear talking Toad cutscenes. Mute him.

The Sonic characters can talk, but the Mario ones really shouldn't.

The only ones who can't are Mario, Luigi, Wario, Waluigi, Yoshi, Donkey Kong, and Diddy Kong.

And in case you don't know what frame blending slow motion is

Go to the frame blending part

Luigi talks in the Paper Mario games. Yoshi's talked in various games as well.

We mean fully voiced talking, not just text.

I don't mind seeing Mario and Luigi speak tbh

Wario and Waluigi should have hilarious antics ala Mario Power Tennis if they're in such game

After the Mario sports mix interview with Mario I would mind.

So, Wario and Waluigi can't talk? What rock have you been living under for the past 20 years?

Too bad.

Mario's talking makes Mario much more likeable and interesting.

Have you ever heard Mario speak to people ala Nintendo World Store or E3 event?
