I don't mind seeing Mario and Luigi speak tbh

After the Mario sports mix interview with Mario I would mind.

Have you ever heard Mario speak to people ala Nintendo World Store or E3 event?
Mario and Luigi are adorable, especially Luigi. :3

Awwww, boy I have to give her a lot of spaghetti meatballs and garlic before I ask her to that. One day, I'm going to get the nerve up and I'm going to do it. Yeah. I gotta say, 'Uh, hey Daisy, uhhhh, uhhhh, uhhhh, hah, oh, uhhhh, uhhh,' and she's gonna say, 'Are you trying to ask me if I marry you?' and I say, 'Oh, uhhhh yeah, I uh, woow, oh I uh, yeaaah.' And she's gonna go, 'Okey dokey'. At least I hope so. That would be nice, huh?

Mario is a funny person, especially when he makes impressions of movie scenes. :) I think he sounds better unscripted (unlike the Mario Sports Mix press conference); his Italian accent is mostly gone, lol.

One of them.

Hmm, that wasn't too bad but I don't think I could handle a whole game full of it.

If we get a game like that, Mario should speak only in cutscenes

Let's talk about the story.

For instance, how exactly would Mario and Sonic's universe come together?

The Sonic characters can talk, but the Mario ones really shouldn't.
The only ones who can't are Mario, Luigi, Wario, Waluigi, Yoshi, Donkey Kong, and Diddy Kong.
Luigi talks in the Paper Mario games. Yoshi's talked in various games as well.

We mean fully voiced talking, not just text.
Luigi did that in Luigi's Mansion (granted not much).

Yoshi's talked in a game before? I can only imagine his random sounds with translation text...

Eggman by accident stumbles across Mario's world, meets Bowser, stuff happens, they team up and invade both dimensions with robotically enhanced Bowser's minions as well as robots.

Well they didn't exactly explain how they came together for the Olympic Games. I'm not sure Nintendo and Sega would bother coming up with an explanation how xP

Everyone but Mario spoke in Sunshine.
Which is stupid. Mario WAS about to talk, but they removed his words.

Can you imagine, when Mario characters have actual voice acting, it's Mario you hear the most, if you listen to all those E3 events.

I can imagine a whole game of Mario's talking, and I actually want that to happen. Mario should not be barred from talking throughout his entire video game career.

That sounds predictable.

At least Mario said some words. Better than Link.

Of course its predictable but its not like the story would amount to much anyhow.

Well, yeah, but Link isn't voiced by Charles Martinet either (well, he was about to...).

Meh, just as long Nintendo does the developing, I wouldn't care too much. Sega can blow the rest of the budget on high-poly character models and elaborate cut scenes.

I think Link works best as a silent protagonist while Mario would benefit from having dialogue.
Exactly. Link is designed to be an avatar of the player. Mario is silent because... I don't know why. Charles Martinet can act. Yeah, Sunshine's voice acting was pretty eh, but I'd like to know how people thought of Toadsworth's voice (Charles Martinet's voice as well).

Mario is kept basic to make him easily adapted for various scenarios.

But basic shouldn't necessarily mean silent.

He technically isn't.

He's as silent almost as much as Link is silent. Both mostly grunt and scream more than they talk.

But people still understand Mario's (extremely bland) personality more than Link who is borderline Gordon Freeman.
