THIS. I thought I was alone. I HATE that the 3DS version exists. It's completely unnecessary. I remember when I said a few months ago "The 3DS version is going to drag the Wii U version down. Mark my words" and everyone was like "Of course not, Sakurai knows what he's doing".

AND LOOK AT WHAT HAPPENED.

I think the idea of a Portable Smash Bros. alone makes it quite appealing to alot of fans of the series. Not to mention more people still have more 3DS's then Wii U's. At least initially, The 3DS version will outsell, and make more money then the Wii U version will.

The only thing I found all that bad about the 3DS' limitations was the Ice Climbers having to be removed. Otherwise, the game will still run as smoothly as any other game in the series. And still has it's own unique flavor to it. And what other changes has actually been changes for the better. (Zelda & Shiek as well as Samus & ZSS being separate characters, Charizard being alone without the fatigue gimmick, and Olimar being buffed as a balance of having less Pikmin)

And we know nothing of what the Wii U version has other what it shares with the 3DS version as well as the different stages. The only thing that we know the 3DS version dragged down the Wii U version was a few characters in the roster and some of the more complex characters had to be scaled down to something simpler. Those are things that will easy to get used to in time. We still have the biggest and most varied roster of the series. And it's two versions of Smash Bros. to play and enjoy that will have different things going for them. It's kinda crazy (But really cool) how we're not just getting one Smash Bros. game, but two of them by the end of this year.

But the two smash games are basically the same game, just that the later release version would be better than the other one.

Isn't most of the 3DS version just a consolation anyways? *coughsmashruncough*

Probably

As much as I like Smash Run as a mode its really not enough to make the 3ds version be its own Smash bros.game

At the end of the day, the 3DS version does feel like a scaled-down SSBU. The lack of modes absolutely proves this. At least the Wii U version probably has Special Brawl and Stage Builder.

I think of the versions of Smash 4 as one of the few games that can kinda be both two games but also one game at the same time. It can be two games because there will be exclusive features in both, as well as stages and bonus content like trophies that won't be in the other version. (We just don't know what will be unique in the Wii U version yet, hoping we'll learn more in the October Nintendo Direct whenever that is). But it's also one game because of the same roster and general gameplay. And it's further made more interesting in how both games can connect with eachother.

So I kinda feel it's like this: If you only have either a 3DS or a Wii U and you can't afford the other system. You still have one complete Smash game regardless of your system. But if you do have both, you have one truly complete game.

Both are the same core game that you get to experience in two different ways with enough differences to make each feel unique without making someone feel like they are missing out by not having both.

Is what I would say.

I see the 3DS version as a way to play Smash Bros. for the ones who are not rich enough to afford a Wii U.

This so much; if the 3DS version didn't exist, I wouldn't be able to get Smash for a long time.

And that probably goes for many, many other people as well.

per this

believe it or not, not everybody can afford to blow money a Wii U

also it's really not the 3DS version's existence that is the problem. on it's own it's still a good game, obviously not as good as the Wii U version but I mean it's a fuckin handheld version of course it ain't going to be as good, granted if they had actually spent more time on it they might've done better with the stages and lack of modes but overrall it's still a pretty nice product for handheld. the actual problem is that Sakurai decided to go communist with the two versions.

Mewtwo still probably wouldn't have been added.

Yeah, but the 3DS version still dragged down the Wii U version. Big time.

Maybe, but what they lack in characters they probably made up in other things, such as potential new modes they have or the stages themselves.

It's nice to see there's some people who see it the way it is instead of making up imaginary excuses and scenario's for Sakurai's bad decisions and making it seem it hasn't effected the overall product. The minute I heard Sakurai said "The roster will be the same" I was worried and the nightmare came true but it is even worse.

Now I'm doubting we'll get certain modes and such for the Wii U version. I doubt we'll get stage builder because the 3DS version doesn't have it. And if we do, hopefully it's way better because Brawl's was pathetic and too limiting.

I seriously think you're overreacting at this point.

The 3DS version had Smash Run, an exclusive mode. Who's to say the Wii U version won't have exclusive modes, or modes the 3DS version just didn't have (like Special Mode)?

I really hope the Wii u version will have special fights. I still have much trust in Sakurai

I said "certain" modes. I'm expecting some that were in games previously to possibly be cut. But who knows, never said for certain.

I highly doubt they'll cut modes just because the 3DS version doesn't have them

actually i'd be amazed if that ends up being the case

lol.... I read this in Sherlock's voice. I hope not but at this point I'm nothing would surprise me.

Really? The only thing I was fearing at one point was how big the roster was going to be. Luckily I realized later on that we were just underestimating the 3DS' capability. But there was a time I was thinking 45 was the absolute maximum amount of characters were getting. And instead we got 49-51. I'm surprised this game got 15 newcomers (Even if two of them are Melee-esque clones of other characters) in the first place.

The roster as is blew my expectations as a result when I really thought about it. Even though that just meant I kept my expectations low in regards to the size of the roster and how many newcomers were coming in.

I'm not referring only to Mewtwo being completely ignored, but also about the Ice Climbers being cut. Also the lack of special modes, mediocre stage selection, etc. I'm not going to elaborate on that again.
