MarioWiki Poll Discussion

Hey, everybody! This week's poll comes from @Hooded Pitohui!

What category of page do you most often consult on the Super Mario Wiki?

  • Articles about major and recurring characters, such as Mario or Bowser Jr.
  • Articles about locations in the Mario franchise, such as New Donk City or Rainbow Road
  • Articles about items and objects in the Mario series, such as Fire Flowers or Power Stars
  • Articles about enemies and bosses across the Mario franchise, such as Goombas or Hooktail
  • Articles about friendly NPCs and allies, such as Bob-omb Buddies or Prince Florian
  • Articles about the games in the Mario franchise themselves, such as Super Mario Odyssey or Mario Tennis Aces
  • Articles about games that I am currently playing
  • Articles about non-game media featuring Mario, such as The Super Mario Bros. Movie or the DIC cartoons
  • Articles about the moves and abilities used by Mario and allies, such as Earth Tremor or Yoo-Hoo Cannon
  • Articles about Mario-related merchandise, such as Mario Hanafuda or Nintendo Monopoly
  • I mostly consult articles that fit into a category not listed here.
I usually consult the wiki for level pages, character lore, and any games I need help getting through. I think it's a reliable resource, and often consult the wiki before considering other sites like YouTube, Fandom, or Strategy Wiki.

I haven't downloaded the app yet and have no plans to do so. I mainly use YouTube when searching for Game Music anyways, and certain games might never get added to the service. Plus, people who don't have NSO can't even use it, so I just don't see the appeal this might have.

Option 8. Never cared for music streaming apps. All the music I want to listen to, I can do so for free on YouTube, and often legally. With regard to Nintendo Music:
-using it would require that I pay for Nintendo's online service which is still a deeply offensive and self-abasing prospect to me 6 years on.
-it doesn't even have the Tropical Freeze, Xenoblade, and Origami King OSTs
-not all tracks are extendable (and i'm excluding jingles and fanfares from this), which is a stupid decision only Nintendo with their dumb "you consume things my way" outlook would be capable of making

This app is available in very few countries in Asia: Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, and Israel. Therefore, I have not gotten a chance to check it out. I do not know if Nintendo has plans to open up to other countries, so I am remaining hopeful on this front since they've taken steps to expand their reach to countries they typically don't have much presence at.

But given how in terms of South-East Asian countries, only Singapore and Thailand matter the most, I don't have much hope for them to open it up there.

Thank you for reading.

no credits or way to actually own the music is a deal breaker for me. just all round comes off like a very low effort app. gimme more cds

I think that it's pretty good. The only thing feature wise I would add is a 3 or even 5 minute option for the extend music feature.

The biggest problem is the limited selection. For started, why did they put the Japanese exclusive Tomodachi Life game on there before ANY 3DS games, let alone the world wide Tomodachi Life game? Also, way to go adding the worst Pokemon game instead of litterally anything else. But, should I really complain? I mean, we know they're adding more, and it seems to be at a good pace! So maybe, throughout the year, they will add Tomodachi Life OST, and Pokemon Ruby, and many other games based on listener feedback! All leading up to the big 1 year anniversary, where they add the grand daddy of all video game soundtracks: Super Smash Brothers Ultimate!

tl;dr I'm somewhat optimistic. Please Add a 5 minute extension

I'm an avid music listener and this app is awful, even if I did have NSO. The library is pathetically abysmal and microscopic, listing only recent titles or the most popular ones (and even that is woefully lacking); I can pick a music I like out of a hat and chances are, it's not even in this app at all (DK Rap from Donkey Kong 64, there you go, that was literally out of the top of my head), plus the music list is bloated up by jingles and fanfares.

The worst part about this is that you use this app to listen only to Nintendo music, and nothing else. You cannot use this app in tandem with any other music, let alone, any other video game music not by Nintendo (no Sonic no Crash Bandicoot no Persona, no Undertale, etc), so it's a huge blow to people who have a wide variety of tastes and a massive library of music to listen to. All of the music they had could have been in the big music streaming platforms like Spotify or you can buy their albums or something to give your playlist a Nintendo flavor but nope, it's tied to this app only because of Nintendo's control. It's useless.

My ideal world has drm-free music where you can pay a fee to access the music files but I know that isn't that feasible outside of small artists.

New poll from the cereal magnate himself, @Waluigi Time! (fittingly enough)

Nintendo developers have considered making Wario-like doppelgangers for characters like Peach and Yoshi. Would you like to see more characters like this appear in Mario games?
  • Yes, I would like to see more doppelgangers of established Mario characters.
  • Yes, but only if they are NPCs and don't take away slots on a game's roster.
  • Yes, but only if they are limited to spin-offs like sports titles.
  • No, I do not like the idea of more doppelgangers of established Mario characters.
  • No, I do not like this idea and would like to see less of Wario and Waluigi as well.
  • I have no opinion.

I think it's a nice idea, but since Wa-Peach never came to be, I don't think the concept would slide without some unique character designs that aren't deriative of Japanese anime or manga.

Option 4. It makes sense for world-famous Mario to have a vain imitator and an official caricature of himself. Luigi's version isn't as justified, but I guess it's fine for Wario to have an easily recognizable sin partner. Further doppelgangers would be lame and would just cheapen the concept. Wario doesn't need a cringe tsundere version of Peach--he already found a female associate in Captain Syrup, who, if you think about it, embodies the opposite qualities of Peach organically and not purposefully to check the box of an "opposite" Peach.

If there specific game idea that has a good reason for giving us more doppelganger type characters in a creative way then it could work, but I don't think Nintendo needs to jump on to giving everyone a Wa-counterpart just because. I kind of like that Wario and Waluigi is just a single instance of doppelgangers of the mario bros, and there isn't an entire Wa-cast counterpart to the normal cast just because.

So I'm leaning towards 4, but I'm willing to accept more doppelganger's if they happen.
