Re: today you did things noteworthy

On our free we ended up playing truth or dare, I never got any good ones apart from impersonate someone in the group and mate went "Do me and you die", so I impersonated that. Because of my lightness everytime some got the dare to give a piggyback to someone it was always me who got carried.

Um...

I also spent the day playing "Pièce Communiste". OUCHY. Take a coin, and make it spin on a table. Then every player has to touch the coin, and if it stops spinning, the guy who last touched it gets hit by the coin. I never show any sign of pain. My hand did, though.

Ah, the masochism of youth.

Went to class and gave a presentation.

Re: today you did things noteworthy

My band director finalized what we are playing for the Christmas concert. First we are going to play a jazzy Christmas melody using the songs Santa Clause is Comin' to Town, Jolly Ol' St. Nikolaus , and Up on the Housetop. Then we are going to do a pretty hard version of Silent Night where everybody, expect me and the rest of the clarinets, has to sing.

Oh, I was so surprised at a grade I got. Rushed, so I thought I would fail. I SUCCEDED! (15/20). Someone else that thought that they would pass failed . There was also another person that got something like 17/20, and was gaping at the paper for a whole minute.

While that is a passing grade, it's still not a really good score.

Same thing happened to me, except I got 98.69 or something like that. Whoever made the program that calculated test averages can't round

you should name the budgie Neptune

or smasher, if that settles people more
I named it Mel, after the killer whale, but I was legitimately considering Neptune

Tried to sleep for half an hour and slept for 6.
Well hopefully the extra sleep will make me more productive.
Also, I swear I'm only online because Github is taking forever to commit my changes.

Now, we didn't get enough time.

Re: today you did things noteworthy

So, I'm looking ask for a webcam and microphone for my home computer for Christmas, partly so I can Skype on my computer, but also because I was THINKING about starting a series of vlogs about random stuff, just getting my opinion out there and stuff... Anyone have any recommendations on what kind of webcam and microphone I should ask for?

I bought a shit load of stuff over these past two weeks, and it just so happens that my mic was one of them:
This is my Mic, it has excellent quality, my friends said they could clearly hear me

Can't exactly recommend an excellent webcam, the one I got was alright quality, not as good as most webcams I see, but I wasn't planning on doing anything too extravagant, just Skype calls and looking at how beautiful I am

if you do want to give it a try though, then this is what I got.

If you want some good quality headphones with a microphone, then you can get the afterglow headphones (easily searchable on google, a bit pricey, but good quality either way). I had an issue with the mic, it was too quiet, but I didn't really bother too much to search into that, so it might work well for you.

hope those links load up for you

Dang, that mic's pretty expensive... Thanks for the recommendations!

Re: today you did things noteworthy

It's not really today, but 4 days ago I did some really noteworthy things.

It was my birthday, so mom took me to a nail salon. I got them painted bright yellow.

Then my mom took me to an Asian restraunt (sp?) and I tried battered vegetables (forgot the name), and impressed a waitress by saying "Thank you" in Japanese.

And I'm posting from a new iPod touch that was my birthday present.

I'd consider that noteworthy. :3

Yes, because believe it or not, she's the one who allowed me back on. :3

Is this for live streaming (Twitch) or recorded (YouTube)? You need different equipment depending on what you want to achieve. YouTube is the simpler one so well go with that (and seems to be the better option for vlogging).

Firstly, webcams are needed if you want to show your face, but do you really have to do that? A cheaper alternative is to just use the gameplay and put your voice on top of it. Most webcams look really bad as well, like I wouldn't bother unless you wanted to invest in a decent camcorder. It's a different deal with live streaming because you want to get as much speed out of your equipment as possible and quality isn't as important, but at the same time that is a second video channel that most people probably aren't going to care about and will likely slow stuff down. It's up to you. You can also do something like Extra Credits where you have a cartoon version of yourself and that might very well be cheaper then investing in good video recording equipment.

However, if you're heartset on video of yourself, Google around and see some reviews on equipment, and maybe ask other vloggers what they use. I don't have any recommendations myself. I will say that most webcams aren't going to look as good as camcorder footage but if you want to use it for Skype as well then just look for the best quality picture you can get for your price range.

As for mic, I just use a Microsoft / Skype headset I picked out of a shop for $10 on clearance which gives a really clear sound, which was great for the purchase price. I think it was this one but not too sure:
http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/en-us/p/lifechat-lx-1000/JTD-00007
Btw I use this on Twitch and Skype and both are fine so I'd expect the same for YouTube.

It is a headset though, and if you go the route of using webcam then you're going to film yourself with a headset, which can look a bit silly. If you do want video or yourself, maybe get one of those discrete mics that sit under your shirt or something (but these can cost a bit of money too).

Oh yeah, and make sure your computer has at least two audio ports (one for headphones and the other for mic). I just want to point this out because - Mac computers and laptops especially - will only have one line-in port and you need to get additional hardware to deal with the multiple audio streams.

Oh, and try and get a decent video editing software. Something like Adobe Premiere or Sony Vegas over Windows Movie Maker. I won't judge you if you pick these up in a questionable way. :P

That said, there's nothing wrong with having okay-ish equipment if you're just starting out and seeing if you like vlogging. However, if you do intend to get popular and maybe use it as a revenue stream (think JonTron and such) then you're probably going to want to look as professional as you can, so get as good equipment as you can afford, play with video editing and have fun.
