The gamepad has to be in a certain range of the Wii U. But some people bring the wii u places and just plug it in somewhere without a tv and play a game like NSMBU that you can see on the gamepad. Pretty sweet idea if you ask me.
So I guess that's a no...?

Well, it was never a portable console. It's just a wireless controller.
With a SCREEN.

Nintendo basically said it could be independent from the TV, so how was I supposed to know.

I would take you seriously of you didn't put the crying face there.

As far as I've been testing, New Super Mario Bros. U can be fully played without TV.
Nintendo Land and ZombiU, however, still require a TV.

I clearly understand, but I just meant the system in general.

Most of the Wii U features are usable without TV, but there are still exceptions, like YouTube.

Yes, YouTube:

I thought they had to have an update to include the video services like YouTube? Unless it already happened and I'm behind.

No, they just carry over the added options from the 3DS.

Actually, YouTube came with the Wii U, I had it already pre-installed.

And no, there's no Flash on in the Internet Browser.
I didn't test JavaScript, though.

*JavaScript.
Java is something totally different.

Does that mean you can easily transfer Miis from the Wii U to the 3DS?

I haven't been in the Mii Maker since making a Mii to correspond with the creation of my Nintendo Network ID and such, so I don't know and haven't tried, but I'll let you know as soon as I get a chance. What I meant was that the customization options introduced on the 3DS are also present on the Wii U.

I'm in Mii Maker a lot, but only for the music.

Is there a way to control what comes up in the WaraWara Plaza? I'd like games I've favorited to come up, not things like Bass Fishing and 30 Great Games: Obstacle Course.

I don't think so. I think it depends on whoever's online at the time (I've seen communities for the eShop and Wii U Chat, for example, though I'm not sure those count, since I think everyone in the plaza at that time represented Nintendo).

Wii U owners I have 2 questions for you

1 When playing Wii games on Wii U can you play them on the Gamepad?
2 Can you do saving and stuff on the Gamepad?
