What if John just relocated all of the oil to a room with a Caliborn in it and drowned him instead.

Well maybe he'd be permanently trapped instead of dead. If John had drowned, I think the best case scenario would have been that he'd be stuck in the oil dying and resurrecting forever. The worst case scenario, of course, would have been Hussie stretching the heroic/just mechanic even further still.
 
Nah, he wouldn't really be trapped forever (or drown if that turns out to be possible). He's a god tier hero of time, so all he has to do is travel back in time to a point where he knew nobody was in the room (to not cause a timeline split by creating a witness that wasn't supposed to witness anything), walk out of the room, return to the present, and drain the oil out.
 
I have no idea how I remember any of this but Cherubim only have spade-type romance and that's why Caliborn finds simple affectionate gestures like hugs so taboo.

This update's reminded me of something - has it ever been revealed how Serenity got in the Amber? Or what she's currently up to, for that matter? I'm drawing a blank on both fronts...

Seeing as his regular windy thing cleared it out locally a few times, doing the biggest windy thing of all should hopefully do the rest - plus it looked like all the dust and candy corn popped out, so yay. My brother's theory (or one he read somewhere) is that ejecting the cartrige will reset everything, since stuff wasn't saved as far as we know, but I feel like that's not how it's gonna go down. Although the ejection does beg the question of who's gonna put it back in so that A6A6I4 can continue...
