So Chrom is out, Chorus Men are likely out, Shulk may still have a chance, and Lucas is still alive.

It seems you won't be satisfied unless this game is filled to the brim with Mario characters. If you want Mario characters, go play Mario Kart. Just because you only play Mario games does not mean everyone else does. Fire Emblem is becoming a very popular series and Sakurai seems to really like it.
