I use them. A lot.

Make that one person who uses the Ice Climbers.

And, then, there are probably many people out there who like them because of their unique combat effectiveness and their competitive potential.

ice climbers are among my favorite characters to use in the entire series

You understand that anecdotal evidence is non-representative, right?
alright. i hereby renounce any sense of personal thought on my part, and resolve to only pay attention to what statistics tell me is true. because clearly personal experience is always wrong and could never possibly be right.

Each character takes time to develop though, so if they're spending time developing one character then another character can't be developed. Why do you think they haven't included every Nintendo character in existence?

So in effect, there are "slots". There is a limited amount of time in which they can develop the game, and so there is therefore a limited number of characters, and therefore a limited amount of space. Hence why I say "slots".
Yes, but you act like Jigglypuff or Ice Climbers being there mean that other characters didn't make it in, solely because of them.
It's true. The time spent developing Jigglypuff and Ice Climbers could have been spent on developing more interesting characters.

I guess that means Ganondorf, Samus, Bowser, and Ness should be cut. No one play them after all.
ok

...wait. people do play as zero suit samus. and bowser.

but we can cut ganondorf and ness, even if i do enjoy playing as ganondorf.

Sorry to interrupt the conversation but I seriously just want to know one thing.
why don't you just use a search engine called google, search "gamestop open on MLK day", and find out for yourself

Why even think of dropping the Ice Climbers? They have a unique playstyle, and if your argument is for the casual player, I doubt the casual players would care how relevant they are as long as they are fun to play as, and they are because they're unique.
because i don't know anyone who plays as them. ever.
huh so you dont know anyone around your area that plays as them so they must be cut immediately.

Funny, seems like i heard this before.
do you know anyone who uses them?

i use them from time to time.

Some friends of mine also use them for that power of theirs.

I really like them to be honest though.
oh, okay. i guess people do use them?

i'm willing to admit that my personal experience is limited here.

I know my brother used them, before he started maining Peach, not sure if he still uses them

wait bowser isnt used much?

man i thought he was awesome in brawl

same thing for ness

Wtf did I ever imply that. Just because YOU'VE seen no one use them doesn't mean the people in general DON'T CARE about them. You clearly missed my point: your personal experience doesn't speak for others out there.

But it's not because they feel like it doesn't need to be in the game and therefore they don't make it in over them.

And if they're so interesting, then why do they have less priority than those two? And I fail how the Ice Climbers aren't interesting characters, personal biases aside.

My opinion is that I'm glad they spent time developing those guys instead of those aforementioned "interesting characters" that are so interesting, they don't even make it in.

Interesting characters...?

They have literally no backstory other than "they climb ice". Which is in their name.

They also don't say anything in the entire game and have more appearances in Smash than in their own series.

Uh, like Ridley?

Don't get me wrong, I think he would be nigh-impossible to work into Smash. But he would make a great addition to the franchise. Especially over someone as obscure as Ice Climbers.

No backstory? Fine. Let's cut Peach, Bowser, Mr. Game & Watch, all Pokemon, etc.

Since when did backstory mattered in Smash Bros.? Really, tell me, since when? Isn't the only thing you care about in Smash Bros. making sure your opponent doesn't recover?

And so what if they had more appearances in Smash Bros.? Does it honestly matter at all?

Dual characters players are far more interesting than a space dragon, imo.

And what do you have against obscure characters?

Aha, no. Bowser has backstory. Remember the game Yoshi's Island?

Pokemon have backstory. They were created by Mew. And Arceus. Which makes no sense. But it's a backstory!

no, i care about having fun with cool characters

The point of Super Smash Bros is to be a series where all your favorite Nintendo characters meet together and beat each other up, right? So how does it make sense that a character who exists primarily in the Smash Universe is supposed to be a representative from somewhere?

man smash bros needs more sci-fi
Baby Luigi said:

People don't enjoy playing as them because they're a crossover character, they enjoy playing as them because they're good at fighting.

Which is lame! I'd much rather have all my crossover characters be fun because they're from different series. To me, Smash is about (basically) making Mario fight Sonic, or Link fight Bowser, or Meta Knight fight Kirby, or whatever.

If you don't like a confirmed character, just don't play as him/her. But I guess that would be impossible if you're forced to have to play as a character that you dislike.

Ah, just like Ness and likely with Lucas if he appears in SSB4. Same with Toon Link in Brawl, because at that time, I know for sure Spirit Tracks wasn't released and I don't think Phantom Hourglass was released before. If it was released before then, it definitely was during the time Brawl was in its final stages, so the only game under Toon Link's belt was Wind Waker.

Also, Ice Climbers are one of my mains so that's another person that uses them.

look who's talking

well im sure plenty of people have something against obscure characters lol
Well, I believe in equality for all (sounds weird when talking about video games, but still)

This probably stems from the fact that my favorite characters get the shaft every damn time.

oh i understand, but i dont really expect every obscure character to be liked/respected/etc.

Since some of them are a bit meh to be honest with you.

uh

excuse me

I mean, not in vanilla Brawl but in pretty much everything else...

well, yeah. what i'm saying is that the ice climbers basically sit around doing nothing at all while everyone else at least has some plot relevance/action other than "lolz let's climb a mountain"
