General Discussion

I really am starting to loathe the wishy-washy way the Japanese folks and/or their translators deal with generic species characters. Like really, of all the Nintendo inconsistencies we have to deal with, this is becoming the most aggravating. I still think having one page for all the generic-Toad-as-a-character *bleep* makes sense, especially with the "possible appearances" section for wiggle room, because who the hell wants multiple generic Toad pages - one is a big enough pain already, and there will always be arguments about where some of the info should go and blah blah blah blah blaaahhhhhhhhhhhhh just put it all in one place and be done with it already. I'd be tempted to say throw Captain Toad in there too because screw it, but the thing is, people will be searching for "Captain Toad", so it benefits the wiki to have a page called "Captain Toad" wherein we talk about all the Captain Toad appearances - without wallowing in the generic Toad stuff, because again, who wants to go through that multiple times?
I feel your pain. These never-ending discussions remind me of this whole Vivian gender identity and quote censorship, except not as clear-cut. Either way, I think the original argument that Captain Toad is a different character stands, but I kind of like the idea that the Toad article should mention a few blurbs about Captain Toad, if not already. I hate Nintendo for not giving Toad an actual name, mais, c'est la vie. We wouldn't have this confusing crap in the first place.

Partly. I'm not using it without thinking, but you can get quite somewhere using it.
It's great for vocabulary and stuff. Just don't use it to translate sentences and other more complicated word structures.

Here's the talk page proposal for the Super Mario form. I suppose you can argue a case for it, but my egotistical self can't conceive of such a thing.

On the note of translations, while I'm not really in Smash I did download the Demo to see what it contains, and noted the Dutch translations for reference.

About the List of enemies page... Is there a rule against putting bosses on that list? I've seen people remove entries of bosses that other people added, but they left it the numerous other bosses that were there beforehand. It just seems inconsistent.

One more thing for the checklist, I suppose.

Actually, another question: any reason the boss list isn't listed alongside the other major lists on the sidebar, under "browse"?

Shouldn't this Bowser Jr. proposal be handled with, since it provides options that violate policy?

I can't find the link to the policy. These losers who keep saying "oh, it breaks policy" aren't helping at all when they don't even link the dang thing they're citing.

Update: Here?

why don't you post it yourself instead of whining about it here you bloody moron

That's not really a policy, though, and more of an unofficial guideline. If you can't find an official policy page, post to the page saying that it being "policy" is false?

it's still a general guideline which should be followed and none of the proposed images follow that said guideline. at all.

Just because it doesn't follow the guideline doesn't mean it breaks the rule or OMG CAN'T DO THAT.

I voted for the image to stay simply because Bowser Jr. doesn't have anything; it's as neutral as it can get for him, especially for recent artworks.

but it does blatantly break a guideline therefore violating a rule.....

Just because it's a suggestion doesn't make it something you have to follow.

uh yes it is, there's a reason we write that out on the infobox

if no one followed it, that means it wouldn't be properly enforced

i'm not praising tight guidelines, but you're trying to make this out looser than it should really be

Both of you are right. If it wasn't something that we'd follow in the first place, we wouldn't have put it there, but at the same time, there's nothing that's enforcing it other than people's knowledge and good will. I'd support creating some sort of "standard" for images in infoboxes.

I think the only reason it isn't heavily forced is if we end up with a one-off who's in a kart or something.

Of course we allow exceptions but the point I'm trying to make....well Time Turner summed it up

It's policy. We wouldn't waste our time writing out all these instructions if following them is optional. Hell, we spelled out exactly what should go in the infobox to STOP these types of TPPs from happening all the bloody time.

The only wiggle room is so that we don't get stuck with karts and sports gear and crap like that in the infoboxes. The only reason this TPP has any business existing is because it's debatable whether the Clown Car and Koopa Shell are specialized enough to make the more recent image inappropriate. Otherwise, the proposal would be cancelled as a pointless exercise. Even now, it would have been better as a discussion, but that ship's sailed.

I'd argue against the Koopa Clown Car's artwork's case. Solo artwork is still the best thing for a character like Bowser Jr.

As for the Island Tour one, the quality and resolution aren't really fit for an infobox image, especially concerning we already have is a great image of Bowser Jr. in itself

The original reasoning behind the proposal was "The current one is getting old."

The only closest-to-valid optional image is low resolution and seemingly cropped directly from Island Tour boxart, which shouldn't be acceptable as an infobox picture either way. None of the options, therefore, are fit to be infoxbox picture other than the original.

I don't care, it doesn't matter enough for me to upload a new pic for a small change

The second one gives a better impression on readers on what the character select screen looks like.
