General Discussion

The category explains what it is: "A list of items that Princess Peach has used or sent to the Player." As in a hodge-podge of random items from various unrelated games. So yeah, it seems pretty unnecessary.

I'd split Purple Bats and Gold Bats from each other actually. From what it seems, they weren't merged in the first place. Anyway, Purple Bats attack when Luigi approaches them; Gold Bats attack only when Luigi tries sucking them in.

I don't know the general pattern regarding ambient ghosts, though, but if the articles are mostly split, it's probably for a good reason.

I support a merge. We don't split red and green koopa troopas, so we don't split those bats either.

I also support merging, the articles are short (not stubs but short) and differences are pretty minor. The only difference between the mice are (obviously aside from color) is that purple mice can scale up walls. Same for bats, both attack, and in the same fashion, though one attacks at any time, and the second requires approaching using the vacuum. Note that I think the name is conjecture, so having a simple name "Mouse" is better. Even if not conjecture, having a simple "Mouse" is still better :P

Note that I don't support merging Gold Mouse with them, because that one has an official name, and have a sort of role and bigger differences. Not to mention that the article is not short.

Red and Green Koopa Troopas aren't split, though both of their names are official, because the difference is also minor; one just walks off the edge while the other is less stupid doesn't. Also Grabbing Ghosts, there are four colors: Strong (red), weak (white), invisible (turquoise and purple), all are merged together.

So there are multiple opinions, should I make a proposal that will take 2 weeks?

Hey I got a question about something on the Mario Kart 8 Wiki page. I made some new icons for the DLC tracks, some that looks like the official ones we already have of the other tracks as seen on Courses section. I was wondering if they would be okay to use and if they are, could someone help to put them up for me? Just for the time being until the official icons can be used from ingame.

I am new around so I didn't want to start a thread or something for such a simple question... if anyone is interested then here is links to the icons:

Made using the official ingame screenshots.

They do look neat, but it still is fanmade, so it's not allowed. Sorry.
Thanks! Better to get told! I just thought the section looked out of place with the current ones used... a tiny bit of OCD kicked in, heh.

Hmmm, is this worthy of a spot on the rumors page?

Commented on it. If there's no official confirmation or no official source, remove it.

I think it should definitely go in Rumours, seeing as it is a rumour, and has been fooling folks for some time, resulting in "Clawdia Koopa" being a pretty recurring character in fanfiction and fanart and the general consciousness of many a Mario fan.

But this "rumor" has basically no official source or where the term even came from. Even though rumors are usually ambiguous, they still have an official source of some sort. This one, we don't know where it originated from at all.

Maybe it originated here. Anyway, wherever it started, it managed to bury into the fandom pretty hard - browse through any fanfic archive and I'm sure more than half of the depictions of Bowser's wife will call her "Clawdia". Fanfiction.net even includes "Clawdia Koopa" in their list of character filters - that might even be worth referencing as an example of how the idea's pretty pervasive without having to reference individual fan works using the name.

I wanna talk about Star (species) for a bit.

I feel like the implication that Geno, Lumas (Luma (species)), the Sun, and Power Stars (Power Star) all being part of the same species is just a little bit silly. I've never been a fan of the tendency to list a bunch of vastly-different characters together under one list, like with Dog and Dinosaur, but there's such a vast discrepancy between the characters and even items here that this really takes the cake. The name "Star" gets thrown around a lot for a lot of different things in the Mario series, but common sense should dictate that these don't all belong to the same species. The star category (Template:Stars) is even worse, stringing not only the characters and species together, but the million-something "Star" items as well alongside some other things that are vaguely related to stars as well (Star Cursor is there? Really?) as if all of them have some sort of direct connection to one-another.

Considering all of them (minus the items because they're items so they shouldn't even be considered a species) link back to the Stars on their articles as their species of origin, this is something that I'd really like to settle, and I have a couple basic ideas to start off. First, remove Lumas from the equation: they are distinctly their own species and shouldn't be considered a part of another. Secondly, retooling the article itself: at the very least, limiting it to the Super Star (Super Star (power-up))-lookalikes is a good starting point and will cut off some of the outliers like the Sun, the Beanstar, and the Star Gate.

Thoughts?

I can't see Star (species) remaining in its current form. The only thing holding the page together is that they're all star-shaped. Keep any species that's referred to specifically as "Stars", take out Lumas, Star Sprites, etc.

There actually was a question a while back (Template talk:Stars) about whether the template should be trimmed to just items, with the only answer being something along the lines of "They're all stars". Off of that note, I'm questioning the validity of that template at all, as once again, being star-shaped/named/whatever is the only common factor.

well i agree with my twin on that stance: the stars template should be trimmed so only the items remain

well maybe it's a good idea to do a case-by-case thing with it and trim some more stuff even further

i think crystal stars and pull stars should remain, but the rest you listed should go (comet pieces...what the hell comets aren't stars)

I was thinking along the lines of "Keep Red Stars, Starman, Mario Party stars, Power Stars, Green Stars, Grand Star, Red Power Star, Big Star, Ztar, Mini Star, Mini Ztar, Boost Star, Bronze Star, etc.". I'm sure you can find the similarities that they all resemble the original Star or are related to those that resemble the Star. Remove stuff like Comet Piece, Crystal Stars, Shooting Star, Star Bit, and maybe those Super Mario Galaxy pieces.

Just build on the premise that the only thing that should be there is that Stars in the template are supposed to be look like Stars from Super Mario Bros., with some exceptions here and there. The line can be a bit hard to draw at times. But stuff like the majority of characters/species and other can go.

Technically, comets are leftovers from the creation of stars, but yeah, we can probably toss them out immediately

technically, all living things came from leftovers from creation of stars as well as planets but we're getting off topic here

i agree with my sister btw: the only stars that should be here is the stars that look like super mario stars (green stars, ztars, super stars (yoshi's island), power stars, rainbow stars, etc.)

Star Block (Mario Party DS) is just a hex, it's not a star per se

Mini Stars and Ztars are debatable too imo

I'd keep Mini Star and Mini Ztar because they have a connection to the original Star and Ztar. But yeah, I think you get my point here.

Just look at the Mushroom template for consistency, I suppose. Or make further adjustments depending on how good it is, too.

I'm mostly basing it on the eyes. The Ztars have them and the Mini Stars don't, so that's why I opted for that.

The Mushrooms get to cheat because all they have to do is stick to the formula of "help/harm player" and have a colorful + spotted cap (and nearly every mushroom across the series sticks to that), which just lets them pile every mushroom without impunity. So... maybe not the best example?
