What Movies Have You Seen Recently?

Submarine

The plot wasn't anything special, but still interesting enough, and the cinematography and soundtrack were stellar. It reminded me of a Wes Anderson film.

it's soooooo good. sean connery is great every moment he's on screen, and the tension is present throughout the whole movie

it's got action, but it's mostly an intellectual kind of action. like a high-stakes game of poker or something

speaking of high-stakes poker games and slightly related to sean connery, i also need to watch casino royale

so i guess you enjoy intellectual films mainly?

I enjoy just action too, but it's not really on the same level of enjoyment.

For example, I can enjoy The Avengers, which isn't very intellectual. Yet it's a fun action movie that has an excellent sense of humor. No reason to be against it.

However, I can also watch The Matrix, which has both excellent action and intellectual thought-provoking questions. I would easily rank that above The Avengers for many of the same reasons I prefer Captain America: The Winter Soldier over it (The Matrix is still my third favorite movie, if you count Lord of the Rings as one movie).

I also enjoy adventure movies like Gladiator, but those can also be improved by intellectual stuff too. Russell Crowe starred in a slightly less well known movie called Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World that I thought was much better and more intellectual.

It sounds like you'd enjoy movies like Children of Men, and Minority Report (though maybe you've already seen the latter since it's Spielberg).

How is Master and Commander less well known if it got a lot of Oscar nods including Best Picture?

Sinbad: Legend Of The Seven Seas

A pretty darn good animated movie, there wasn't anything to not like about it. It was funny, it had cool visuals, likable characters, and an interesting moral choice. I'd put it over many of Disney's works.

Because it was eclipsed by Return of the King, which was released the same year and stole all the other awards, including Best Picture which Master and Commander was only nominated for.

Have you even watched both movies? I honestly wouldn't be able to say which was objectively "better"; Return of the King is nice fantasy adventure but Master and Commander was far more intellectual and also has Russell Crowe.

I've seen Return of the King, and just because a movie won more awards than the other one doesn't mean they're not popular, look at these movies that didn't win Best Picture: LOTR 1 and 2, Star Wars, Goodfellas, Beauty and the Beast, It's a Wonderful Life, Wizard of Oz, Taxi Driver, etc

go watch master and commander, it's russell crowe's finest film

even better than gladiator, which was itself a great movie

Battle Royale

Too many characters and not enough plot, but overall a good movie.

The movie did a very good job in showing the contrast between the disturbing violence and the innocence of teenagers, and how perverted the whole game was. But I wish they had focused more on a few characters instead of trying to give so many characters backstories.

Where did you see Phineas and Ferb: Star Wars? It's supposed to air in a week.
My bro got it from the Internet, since we were too impatient to wait for it to come to Canadian airwaves.

QFT.

I can't remember a time where I didn't love The Hunt for Red October - it's been one of my favourite films ever since I was a wee lass.

This old silent film from 1917 where Charlie Chaplin came to America and ate some food.
The only thing I ever saw that comes close to a Charlie Chaplin movie is the Richard Attenburough directed biography starring Robert Downey Jr. (Which to me is his best role), I should watch some actual Charlie Chaplin films.

I've been watching The Lord of the Rings lately. I can never get tired of those movies :D
